Was this a spirit guide?

I've been wishing to see my spirit guide for ages now in a dream. I've always thought it was going to be a person but this morning I had a dream about a dog. At first I thought it was an untamed dog and that it would bite me, so I flinched and sort of tried to walk away from it while it was barking at me. But then I thought I got this feeling that it wouldn't bite me/the dog said it to me telepathically (I can't really remember) and I started to touch it. It then started to lick me and slober on me (as any dog would) and I gradually became very close to it. So we were playing around the house and at one point it gave me a bit of a punch with his paw, a sort of joking punch (although it was quite hard I must admit haha). Anyways this is the extent of what I remember. The other dream I had involved me almost getting crushed by an elevator which I won't go into   So yeah, I'm just wondering if it could be a spirit guide...it never said anything to me I don't think. The only slight thing I did feel from him was a 'don't be afraid, I won't bite' message. Or perhaps it could be my subconscious acting out what I secretly desire, as I've recently had the desire to own a dog and a cat. Although I haven't been thinking about this at all for a few weeks or so so why would I dream about it? This is what I hate about interpretation, it's so subjective!  

Here is a picture of what the dog looks like, it sort of looked liked this but he had a bit of black fur too (he looks like one of those fierce dogs).

That's a pretty close picture to the dog my girlfriend and I adopted last February. 
Beagal / Lab mix.  Very adorable.  hehe

But yeah...
If anything spiritual, it's an animal guide.
At the very least, it conveys your desire for a canine companion.

Nothing spiritual really happened so perhaps it was just a random dream

Many Native Americans believe spirit guides are animals. The animal totems can vary based on events going on in your life- they are making you aware of a situation they represent at that stage in your life. You can find out more about their meanings in an online search, but one site I found had this listed for dogs: "Dog: Noble, faithful, loyal, teaching, protection, and guidance."
I have a book called Animal Speak that goes much more in depth about animal spirit totems. It's worth checking out if you believe the dog was significant.

I doubt it was your spirit guide....If you want to meet your spirit guide so badly, just ask! I did this one night before I went to sleep, and if you really truly want it and mean it when you say it, believe me- they listen! You might feel kind of silly, but talk to them. Tell them you know they are there with you, and that you appreciate them helping you. You really want to get to know them, and would they please reveal them self to you.

Don't be shocked when you get a response! I've been laying there in a trance, and I've had an arm come down and help me out of my body. Good luck!

I do ask, actually I ask quite frequently but nothing seems to happen. Although I do think that I am communicating with him/her sometimes. I always ask when the next bus will arrive and the voice always tells me the right time. Freaky.

My spirit guide said he is me from the future. I guess with enough practice we all the ability to communicate through time to our consciousness.

But as for how to meet your spirit guide... Maybe he/she is communicating with you but you just don't have the ability to hear them. Practice energy body development for a couple weeks and see if anything happens.
