one more thing to add to that... in the dream or whatever it was... i remember actually being pulled back into my body and strong sensations then but my body was in my bedroom back at home (or so i think) and i am in college in my dorm room. Any thoughts on this either?

Chris

It's hard for either myself or anyone here to determine whether you were having a dream or an OBE.  I know the difference between a dream and OBE myself because they feel different.  However, dreams are also other states of consciousness that I believe do not necessarily reside where the physical body is.  So, we get into semantics about OBE verses dream, verses astral travels or other states of consciousness.  I usually don't consider my own experiences OBE's unless I have actually gone through the process of separation and find myself in an environment that is very close energetically to the physical plane with a high degree of awareness and lucidity.

I generally don't get much out of those experiences actually.  I come out of my body, float around a bit, look at this and that, and then go back.  Every once and a while I'll meet and speak with my guide in this state.  However, the much more meaningful trips for me seem to be in the astral which can be mistaken as dreams or OBE at times.  However, remember that EVERYTHING you encounter and experience is being TRANSLATED and FILTERED by your own mind.  Additionally, your own emotions and fears create images around you.  It is possible to be out of body, but at the same time dreaming... creating images of your own.  To another out of body person you might look like a sleep walker.  Do not immediately take the images you see in dreams or OBE literally.  Look for the true meaning of their symbolism.  What's interesting is that when you start to do this, things actually start to calm down and become more clear and literal in their translation.  It's as if the analysis of what you are perceiving brings it into focus and shows you what it really is.  Doing this on a regular basis will make both your dreams, astral travels, and interactions with guides more clear, defined, and free of your own unconscious misconceptions or assumptions.

Thanks Chris for all of the insight. I too one day hope to have that sense of clarity with my dreams, ap and anything else i encounter. I then hope life may seem more clear to me? who knows?

one more thing that I remember from the lucid dream or whatever was that my left eye wouldnt open so i actually took my right hand which was transparent if i remember correctly and opened my left eye. is it actually possible for a Real Time Eye to be shut like that hahah? seriously maybe that would help me determine what this was. Thanks again.

It is worth noting that one method of inducing projections is that of projcting through a lucid dream. A lucid dream is a dream where you are consciously aware that it is a dream. So, if you have a dream about projecting, and can become aware/conscious that it is a dream, then it will be much easier to have a conscious projection. Many people maintain that some dreams are actually unconscious astral/ethereal projections.
Chris had an excelleant point by saying that the mind filters information. So it is possible that a dream (and especially a dream about projection/OBE) actually Is an unconscious projection/OBE that is misinterpretated by the mind/brain as a dream.. In that case it would be possible to project from that dream (after the dream became a lucid dream by becoming aware while still in the dream). It might seem complicated but is actually relatively simple. The flow of consciousness would go Dream Of Projection >>>> Lucid dream of Projection >>> Actual deliberate and conscious astral or ethereal projection.[8D]

Thanks GreyTraveller.... one question though

where you said:

(sorry i'm new to this and am not sure how to use the "quote" feature)

anyways, where you say that the dream is actually an unconscious projection/OBE, that was misinterpreted by the mind... how would that be a dream at all? Well, if it was misinterpreted by the mind and I realized that while in the middle of it, is it possible for me to totally switch in the middle of the unconscious projection to make it conscious? i may be confusing... i'm just trying to understand this more.

This problem has always perplexed me, even after having a few obe's, obe dreams and lucid dreams, but I think the key is that in those states the concious mind is mostly on vacation and the subconcious and maybe what you could call a superconcious mind is ruler-so things can be created or dissolved and you can jump mysteriously from one state to another, because you gain or lose awareness-what started out as a dream could turn into a obe with a sudden jump in how aware you are, while an obe could dissolve into dream images if your awareness just 'goes to sleep'.
In the world in general and in this nation
May not even the names disease, famine, war, and suffering be heard.
May virtuous qualities, merit, and prosperity greatly increase
And may continuous good fortune and subline well-being perfectly arise.

To answer your question as concisely as I can .... Yes  it is possible to totally switch in the middle of an unconscious projection to make it a conscious projection. The vital piece of information necessary for this change is lucidity. Once lucid you will shortly know whether a) the dream about projection was just a dream or b) the dream about projection was actually an unconscious projection. One way to determine that it is b) = unconscious projection, is if the dream scenery starts to fade away and you begin to slowly wake up. If it is b) then try to shift you consciousness to your astral/ethereal body (which is already projected outside of your physical body).
Shifting consciousness into the astral/ethereal body is one method of projection (going out of body). This might be confusing during the first few times that you attempt it. It was for me and caused a few failures before eventual success. The important point is to stay calm and don't give up. Eventually you will become familiar with the sensations of going from dream to lucidity to out of body (projection). Some people can do it on their first try. Other people need several attempts, others might have to stay with it for weeks or even months. Don't get discouraged or frustrated. The effort Will be well rewarded. You Will eventually project and this will open up an entire new universe. Good luck.

I guess my main wish would be that I could actually experience a projection from start to finish and not end up in my bedroom at home right in the middle of the projection... it would then be so much more clear to me what is going on.

I will take your advice that's for sure... one thing that I'm grateful for is that since I experienced so much sleep paralysis and projection symptoms, I am now able to know exactly what they feel like. (i usually get them spontaneously) but now I'm actually able to say "hey i think i can try and project". Although i have had little success with it as of now, I plan on working with those feelings and hopefully shift consciousness. Thanks again Greytraveller.

Hi,
Lately I've bee having this problem which I feel is most likely due to the fact that I'm reading much more about the subject now than ever. Well first of all let me start by saying I've never actually consciously had a projection aside from possible ones as a child when I suffered from sleep paralysis for a long period of time. Anyways, if I just try and go to bed, I'll fall asleep, and lately, I've been having dreams about projecting. How do I know these are just dreams? Well, I'll be sleeping (in my dream) in a totally different location. Secondly it just doesnt feel like I'm out of my  body, it feels more like I'm dreaming about being out of my body and then taking things I've read and putting them to use (for instance when it just happened to me during my nap, I tried going through a wall where i was and nothing happened). So basically my question is, is this phenomenon normal and if so how can I differentiate when I maybe say woke up in the middle of a projection as supposed to had a lucid dream of projecting? Someone please help.
