Think of learning martial arts... the durations is about the same I think. Some have a natural talent and can progress to a black belt (lets just say black belt is the highest, I know this is not the case in all martial arts) easily, others take years.

A fine question indeed and one that can only be answered by those people who have successfully done it. Those who have not done it do not know how easy it is; all they know is that their journey is generally frustrating and time consuming. I have now been trying for a year. I reckon that I am now a yellow belt in that I have, since I started, managed to get to the point where I am having occasional lucid dreams.

you have to really want it. Its kind of about overpowering your subconious (as i'm finding out, mine doesnt seem to want to let go of its dreaming lol).

You could take months and months to get to the stage where you can OBE.. sometimes you'll do it straight away or even spontaneously. Its a mixed bag of nuts :)
