My brother has had a scary OBE, not only once. He does not write and speak english well, it is not our mother language, so he asked me to put his story on a forum. He spontaneously has OBE, but they seem to be of unpleasant character.
Two days ago he met a dark forse, a shadow that tried to tear him apart, strangle him and they fighted, he shouted "who are you?what do you want?" the shadow replied something, not recognasable. As he tried to fight back, he would realize that his body can not move, so he felt helpless in dealing with the shadow, that seemed to him like something very old and evel. Than suddenly the shadow left, he slowly started to come back into his body and see the shapes of the room he was in. He was only than able to move his legs and arms.
Is there any advice how to deal with situations like this?
He feels very tired, exhausted and like his energy has been taken away after events like this.
Any similar experiences, please write. Thank you.

This is a normal experience with an OBE. These fearful experiences are very common and are harmless. Work through them and you will experience the full out of body experience.

Good luck.

yupp.. sounds like NEGS... as u are about to leave your body, they are NOTHING to worrie about, although scary as they might seem, ignore them. In OBE, like I've stated before, once out, your on your own, pal. (unless you seek others) (Thats from my experiences anyways). Lucid dreaming, and you might have to set a standard towards some bullies, but as u are OBE'ing most and almost all of them wont be able to reach you there...  If you experience fright and horror as you are exiting your body, KEEP going!...  ignore everything and just go out! You are pretty damn safe

Not all of these experiences are true negative entities...

It is possible especially with spontaneous OBEs, where it seems that REM elements are blurred into wakefullness, that people can experience hypnagogic or hypnapompic hallucinations.... not to say they are not real, but it is possible that elements of dreams can overlap the waking state.  People who experience this (myself included, for many years before I was able to control the OBEs and the experienmces leading up to them), what is happening is that the fear of sleep paralysis, and the fact that the brain is in a semi-awake and semi-asleep state, fear tends to control what images people see in this state, and they are usually shadowy figures, the feeling of being pressed down into the bed, or the feeling of being 'pulled' or pulled apart even... (the beginning stages of separation).  I would say this is more likely the case then true negative entities, since usually you actually have to actively look for negative entities. They don't usually just find you for no reason.  And even then, encounters of that degree are not that common.

Lets not jump to the conclusion that every shadow figure is a true negative entity.... I am not dismissing the possibility, but i just don't think that's the case here, especially since the OBEs are uncontrolled, and spontaneous, and fear is likely a major factor.

Hi Tarna!

This is Classic Lucid Dream where someone 'new' to the experience has come awake during the sleep paralysis of the REM phase of our sleep cycle. History portrays thru all civilizations (with their own cultural twists, of course) the scary scenes where an innocent sleeper is traumatized, even brutalized by a vicious devil/demon-like spiritual entity, and is helpless against the attacks. He feels he cannot move because in truth, he cannot!  It is a defense mechanism of your body to render you 'paralyzed' during the usually active REM dreaming phase, so you don't act out your dreams. There are a few rare types (like myself) who are REM sleepwalkers, where we are not always inflicted with the paralysis and do fully act out our REM dreams.  Other sleepwalkers are acting out in the Non-REM phase of (delta) sleep where there is no paralysis.

Tell your brother he has NOthing to worry about; and the above posts support this and are in truth.  :-D

That's the good news
Actually, there is no bad news, unless your brother is unwilling to deal with these experiences (he's likely to have more), and realize these are only HIS Own seated fears, and all he has to simply do, before going to sleep, is set the intent (affirmation) that when he does encounter the scaries again, to 'remember' to simply state firmly something like this: "I am NOT Afraid!"  "I Have NO Fear!" "You Cannot hurt me, so you may as well just GO Away"  and then proceed to laugh, and make it really 'real' that he is in charge, and not afraid of what goes bump in the night. The laughing/making a joke of it helps the dreamer punctuate his claim, and then literally, watch whatever scary 'thing' shrink, or transform into something harmless, or even fluffy and fun :-)

A good resource for a lot if info in this is the book EWOLD: Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming, by Dr. Stephen LaBerge.  Amazon carries plenty if used copies, and it will become your LD bible!

Tell your brother he has a real gift if he can access the LD OOB world, and to GO FOR IT! He can deal with real life issues thru LD/OOB and really grow in his spiritual life as well.

GOOD LUCK and GOOD FORTUNE, Always

I believe in NEGS just as much as I believe in OBE's... I have experienced both of them, and yet as I have experienced both close and vividly, they seem to stretch this allready loose and torn norm from and to edges and end....  I can honestly say I'm not sure.... just as much as I'm not sure that OBE's are real, even though I had them, and the world where I'm actually sitting here writhing this, is real....    We have a problem here, and the problem is separating dreams from real, or what we perceive as REALITY.... ok, enough wannabe wiseman CRAP...

NEGS, are short for negatives.  Shadowy wild life creatures who roam around at the lower plains of the astral realm. They somewhat seem to be closely related to the realtime realm of which we live in... For centuries NEGS are reputed for showing up in dreams/nightmares and get some sort of saticefactory out of scaring people senseless. And you can read alot of occult books like the bible (whoops, no offence :P) or others....  and we all get the idea...  we get the idea, that Satan wants your lifeforce which is supposedly LIGHT and he is DARK thereof, he gain tremendous energy by drawing the light from you....  and thats the idea behind NEGS.... well the idea don't sound illogical does it? So a neg is drawing the positive to negative charge differential to its negative natural charge to add and empower itself.... sounds allmost like physics, doesn't it??? ..though hardly...  but this is what negs supposedly do.... and many ppl claim to be under such a possesion or has been, and are sick or even dying....

I know when I dream, and that things happened during the day appears as figments of my imagination and daily experiences. I know dreams and how they tell things...  they are VERY delicate, but yet sorted in their overall message, and the "figments" are by my experience just the baseline of the rest of the whole dream...  (would give examples, but my post is getting too long) But to say that monsters that appear in front of you are just your imagination when u are PERFECTLY (no? but enough awake to realize that something quite seriously DIFFERENT is happening, anyways...)  awake which should be the case as you are getting out of your body is just the taco you ate or even FEAR (joke), now where was my punctuation?      . <--- Here! ...but anyways, I things negs DO exist, because it seems logical to me... AND ,

Why is it always this my friends, that when we feel fear, SOMETIMES we are confronted with vicious demon monsters? I've felt fear many times at OBE's and no monsters... but they never show up when you are up and easy about going "outside", which I did when I got used to the bloody thing.....  no monsters, darkness, or evil....  Nothing... but if I feel hate, regrets and generally something is bad, then and only then do I see those things...

Symptoms of ASP

When someone becomes conscious and aware of their sleep paralysis state, they usually don't know what's happening to them.  Naturally, because they're conscious, they try to move, but can't.  When they find out they can't move, they start to become agitated, distressed, afraid and may even panic.  They're stuck between reality and the hallucinated world of dreams and can't seem to get to either place. Often, they struggle and thrash against the paralysis, trying to get free, but that rarely helps.

To make matters worse, fears can easily become manifest as very realistic hallucinations in the ASP state.  Therefore, people commonly see monsters, demons, witches, or other unsavory creatures attacking them.  It is so common for people to see old hags trying to sit on them that they coined the word "hagging" to describe it.  Often they seem to wake up "just in the nick of time before the monsters get them," when in reality the fear-induced shot of adrenaline breaks them out of the paralysis.  For the most part, these creatures are hallucinations that can be disregarded, but I realize that's easier said than done.

Most of the time, ASP sufferers struggle to regain control of their body and eventually win.  Sometimes, however, a person may seem to wake up, only to discover that they're really still asleep and dreaming that they woke up.  We call this phenomenon "false awakenings."  Sometimes a person can have several false awakenings in a row, leading them to become frustrated that they can't wake up, or worse, terrified they may never wake up again.  ASP sufferers are often reluctant to discuss their experiences because they're afraid that people will think they're crazy.  Many people have keep this their little secret all their lives.

What can you do about the monsters?

Usually when people learn about ASP and what it is, their fears lessen.  When their fears lessen, they tend to see fewer monsters.  Therefore, your best advice is to not panic, remain calm, realize that you're safe, and this is a natural thing your physical body does.  Then, if you want, explore the state.

MidniteMarauder put it very succinctly. Yes waking paralysis is often a halfstate of wakening where your body is not able to move coz it still is in "sleep mode", reason is because it has a chemical released that paralizes the body so it wont move while dreaming.... defence mechanism. Sometimes your mind might wake up during this part and ur central nervous system did not pick it up too soon. Thats when you find yourself in this sticky situation...  For most OBE-nauts, know this, but for ppl who don't is experiencing TERROR (sometimes even ppl who DO know)  in this state, understandably. I've had relatives troubled with this (and myself) but whitout any OBE's or stories of such sort. Onetimers for the most.

Solution is: Wiggle your small limbs...  toes, little finger, or generally small muscles that requires little energy to move.... impose your will on just those small parts... and the rest will follow because it HAS to... your body will wake up. Its nothing to be afraid of.

No fear wont let the bedbugs bite either...

Only thing to fear is fear itself. Fear is a shout, silent or loud. You don't want to call on your enemies when your down.
Do it fast what is to be done, and your enemy will be gone
Coz there is no fight between evil and good when the master has understood,
that the fight was all about what he knows and what he shun
And that his reality was all an illusion and not even begun
and that there was more then what he knew between the waters and the sun.
And just think about sex before you dream...

Good luck with this :)  (yes I was actually serious about that poem I just wrote. Don't laugh at it, its a good advice)
