Title: How to realise your in a dream?
Post by: Kirkland on May 18, 2012, 15:08:18
Well I've been trying to astral project for some time but am having difficulties doing so, on the positive side though every time I go to sleep trying to project (well 98% of the time) I will have a conscious dream. Now that has got me thinking about trying to realise I am dreaming so I can project. So far I've tried writing a letter on my hand and throughout the day looking at it so when I do dream and I don't see a letter on my hand I will know I am dreaming..... That hasn't worked so far so does anyone have any other ideas which I can try?

What do you mean by "conscious dream"?

A lucid dream?

A dream where you remember it in detail but not really in control of it. I normally get them before I wake up only ending when my alarm goes off. From what I know of lucrid dreaming the dreamer is aware they are dreaming when I do I am not I just realise I was dreaming when I wake up. :-D

Hi
When you realise you are dreaming you have nothing in place to stay in that dream state by the sound of things. You need to imagine a place you know very well, the area must be safe and have a happy feel to it. Its better if its near you but not within 40 feet. Make this your safe place and think of it daily.
The next time you realise you're dreaming put this place firmly in your mind as if your life depened on it. No emotions attached at all just being there at all cost. Eventually your subconcious will take the action of sending the concious you to that place. St the moment it realises a change and takes the action of placing you back in the physical. Basically you wake up. This safe place is the alternative you have to change as where you need to be. It may take a while to program your subconcious but it does work. Its also handy if you're on the lower levels and not happy in the scenario your in.
From this place of safety you deepen your awareness and continue your travels.
Its all about passive intent, you dont need to fear anything as you can escape to safety in a microseconds thought.
Give it a try for a while, it may work immediately but it can take a few dozen attempts.
Its all up to your handling of how you feel and assertion of desires.
Enjoy.

Ah, yes.  That comprises the majority of my normal dreams.
How to do it?  I have no clue... they just come naturally to me as Lucid Dreaming does.

Yeah that's a normal dream then.  They're still fun as some strange stuff can definitely happen in them.  lol

Kirkland,

Carlos Castaneda discussed this in his books and was wondering did you read his material on
this technique?

Back in the day, I tried this when starting out and had a difficult time. For a good couple of months, I couldn't for the life of me perform this technique/method. Accidental, I projected from the MWBS (mind wake body sleep) state and realized their were other ways to project. Even though, I still kept up on looking at my hands during physical and reciting in dreams, eventually I was able to become lucid in the OBE. So now, I could project during trance and recognize in the dreams.

Keep practicing and it will come. But also, look into accessing the OBE during trance.

All the best,

Dave

David is dead on with this.

Practice.

It sounds weird, but after enough of looking forward to dreams, you begin to get a sense of what is 'natural' physical world mechanics. So when you dream, when something 'wrong' happens, you jar yourself conscious.

For instance, I had a dream about longboarding in Boston the other night. At the end, my board accidentally went flying into a wall and snapped in two. I ran over to it and as I held it up I realized this would never happen. Viola. Realized I was dreaming and a full fledged project started.

Anything to help you get in touch with you 'dream state' will help. Journals, affirmations, etc.

When you get that down. Those drowsy morning projections become a cinch.

Cheers,
Contenteo

Everything that you put fourth towards projecting, if it is reciting during the day, exercise, looking at your hands it all takes one shape or form in the later.

I can't tell you how many times - especially in the beginning how valuable writing on paper 200 times "I will project tonight, I will recognize that I am flying and become conscious" helped in later years. Now, I know that is extreme but I didn't take failure as an option. Now, guess what? after so many years my biggest awakenings are "becoming conscious during a dream as I flying" or entering the trance state as I fall to sleep. It all comes to full circle.

So ask yourself "Am I really ready to go the distance and do whatever it takes". As a side note, make SURE you think safety first and going about this in a healthy way.

Keep up the drive and energy... You'll get there...

Dave

Well I've been trying quite a lot though I can't complain really even though I haven't had an obe or even a lucrid dream yet all the changes I've done have been really beneficial.Over the last 6 months I've started meditating (took a few courses) and though it hasn't helped with obe's yet it has brought down my anxiety (which I suffer from) a lot. I've cut out all junk food, alcohol and I've started working out for the first time in my life (started doing half marathons thanks to getting fit). All this was at first to try to astral project but so far my journey to try to have an obe has really helped in other areas.

I just hope that at some stage in the future be it a weeks time or a few years time that I actually get to experience what you all get to  :-D

Kirkland,

Good for you and keep it up!

You see this is not just for projecting, but other aspects of your life as well. I have no doubt that you will succeed in projecting. Remember patience and determination is the key with goal setting that will connect to the OBE. Just keep plugging along, documenting, journal writing, and importantly statistically writing everything down.

All the best,

Dave
