What exactly do you see when AP'ing?

I've never understood in all my research of AP, what it is exactly that people see when AP'ing.

Does it seem like a normal waking state? Can you see the same colors/objects, etc, as if you are awake? Or is it more of a dark/shadowy type of thing - outlines/shadows etc.

Is it like a conscious dream (I know this refers to Lucid Dreaming, but I know that AP is different)? I mean do you see things like you would in a dream? Humans, textures, colors, landscapes, etc.

Thanks!

I'll describe what I see and do while I project...

What I see is the same as when I'm awake and when I'm dreaming.  There's no difference in the reality.
What I do is the same as when I'm awake and when I'm dreaming.  :)

Orion-

Early experiences can be a bit more unclear, like a dream.

When you make progress things become much more real, at some point it can look more real than the physical. It's also very possible to see colors that we don't know in the physical, or experience a reality that is totally different from this one, and thus unexplainable with words, like it is impossible to describe a color to someone that he/she has not experienced.

To understand how it can be or feel more real, imagine your are having a blurry unclear dream right now, and imagine this experience in the astral would be like being awake.
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

To light one candle is more effective than cursing the darkness.

Think about that statement for a second... it can seem "more real" than the physical.  hehe

What is "real"?
What is "physical"?

How can something be "more real" than that which we believe is already the real thing?

Now I know what you mean by it... but it's still a very confusing statement to make and really ends up with more questions fired at you than answers.

What will you experience?  You'll experience like you experience this physical reality.
How "CLEAR" will the experience be?  It'll be as randomly clear as your physical reality is from time to time.  Your physical experience can be dreamy, it can be super clear... it can range between those two in an infinite scale.  The EXACT same can be said of our non-physical experiences as well.  :)

You can see everything and anything you set your intent on! You can also do everything and anything you set your intent on! In the Astral Plane there are no limitations.

It depends on where you go, what time of the day, etc.  An etheric projection (that is, a projection to the real time zone) will look grainy and dull if you project at night, and it looks 'sort of' like what things look like with a heat sensing camera or infrared goggles.  If you project to the astral it can be as vivid as real life, although the contents may be more fantastic- like creatures that don't look 'earthly' in vivid colors.  Other realms may look more abstract-like or the colors may look like nothing you've seen with your eyes.  It's hard to describe, but you know it when you see it.

In the astral and mental plane, it's like a lucid dream, but you have more control and you can leave and go somewhere else without waking up.

You're welcome.

I am not sure what sort of research you have done but I would say that what people "see" varies widely from person to person.

For me it doesn't. I know I am not in a "normal" waking state when I go OBE. Sometimes you can see the same colors/objects, etc, as if you are awake and apparently many do most of the time... but my early OBE's were very unusual in these aspects and I only started having some of these more common elements in my journeys when I consciously used "intent" to explore the types of experiences that I was reading from other projectors.

Sometimes. If I am having frequent OBEs they begin to take on dream-like characteristics. If I have only one or two OBEs per month the first projection is strong and more Astrally or Causally-ish in nature. If I project multiple times in a row the second will be similar but shorter. The 3rd and 4th projections start to get darker and weaker. The 5th or 6th will be very dreamlike and usually degrades into a long and very engaging Lucid Dream and then I just wake up normally rather than consciously return to the body.
