I am so new

G'day,  I only just stumbled across astral projection by chance.  I have never even herd of it before.  I would just like to tell you what I have been doing for years and if it is a form of astral projection.  

I go to sleep, fully unconscious probably about 4 hours of sound sleep.  Then my dreaming stage takes place.  The thing is I am aware that I am dreaming so if I think about a certain place or would like to be with a certain person I can steer the dream in the direction I so wish.  Most times this is easy but then there are times when I have to really put the place or person in my mind to interact or be there.  I am fully asleep but aware that i am dreaming and conscious enough to know where I want to be and with who.

I must admit,  my dram time is a lot better than anything I could ever imagine or hope to see in reality.

Just wandering if anyone else has any thing similar and if this is considered astral projection or any other term.

sounds like lucid dreaming to me.  I would just go to the Astral FAQ's section and peak around.
