Hey Hey,

I have a small question about positions, firstly I'm very instruction oriented and like to follow instructions to the tee, then again I'm having real problems trying to AP since I also learn best when someone shows me how to do something and it's hard to get someone to show you feelings (like vibrations).

Anyway I've read a lot of guides on how to AP and most of them say get into a comfortable position, then they say lay flat on your back with your hands at your side, to me that's not comfortable, I prefer to lie face up, sometimes on my side even, with my hand over my head, fingers intertwined and preferably my legs crossed, although admittedly I was getting pins and needles in my legs from this last night.

I've seen in a few places that it's a no no to cross your extremities since it's bad for energy flow as well.

Anyway can anyone clear this up and give me advice on what different positions you use or have got to work, the flat on the back just isn't working for me.

Thanks

I prefer a recliner- it's comfy but not too comfy.  In my bedroom so I can close the door.  I don't recommend the bed (unless you have no other option).  In that case I recommend you get lots of pillows so you're half-sitting, half reclined.
Other instructions are subjective- if you're too uncomfortable you won't get deep enough, and if you're too comfortable you may fall asleep.
I also recommend the very early morning (like two hours before waking up)- you trance easier and don't fall asleep, because you already had a mostly full night's sleep.

hmmm, I'll have to stop being so lazy then, 2 hours before waking I usually just go back to sleep, on weekends anyway. I have been trying at night just before sleep but always end up falling asleep, it's the only free time I get really since I have to get up quite early for work.

what about the crossing your body parts thing? you know anything about that, i heard that's why ancient mummies always have their arms crossed since it keeps the spirit in the body, so if I cross my arms it will keep me in my body.

I'd say that for the ancient egyptians, everything was symbolic.  So it's not that the crossed arms kept their spirit in, but that it told their subconscious that they would be safe.  Crossed arms is no different than wearing clothes, or jewelry, or anything else.  If crossing arms and legs mess with your circulation (thus keep you uncomfortable (and is probably not good for you from a health standpoint) don't do it, but not because of this idea, just for the comfort issue.
