1) Fear. I am scared crapless of doing an OBE at night. I am so afraid of OBE symptoms that I don't even dare doing WILD attempts in fear something will attack me. Don't ask, I'm a bit of an insomniac.

You must look within yourself and ask what it is you're really afraid of.  If you have never had an OBE before, than what makes you think that you will get attacked?

I remember when I was first reading about OBE's (but before I experienced them), I was a little fearful of the same things you are.  However, I soon realized that all my fear was self-generated.  It was my mind blowing things out of proportion.  "What if this happens?  What is that happens? etc..."

However, it's those types of feelings which hold a person back from relaxing and staying conscious enough to experience the wonderful feeling of projecting.  You must reassure that nothing can happen to you when you project.  You have all the power, and as long as you can control your thoughts, you can have a truly magical experience.  I have had numerous projections and none of them have ever been negative.  Even the ones were I heard weird screaming, or feeling unseen hands grab me were not that terrifying.  Actually, they are more annoyances than anything.

2) Breath Awareness. The exercise is so extensively used throughout Astral Dynamics yet it is near impossible for me to do. Sure it may be that today was my first few good attempts at it, but it's just so hard!

What are you doing, and what do you find difficult?  If you think about it, the whole point of breath awareness is to relax your body.  If you can relax without doing these things, then by all means, do that instead.  Trying to force yourself to do something just because it works for someone else is the wrong way to go.  Do what works for you, and develop your own techniques by tweaking others.

Best of luck.

Fat_Turkey, you need to sleep.  If you have insomnia problems, you need a non-addictive prescription sleep aid (temporarily) that will completely knock you out.  You need at least 8 hours of sleep per night at least 2 weeks.  Until you are well rested, with normal sleep patterns, your OBE attempts will either not work, or if they do, they will be unpleasant.

If your goal is NOT to OBE, then pay close attention to what brings them on and do the opposite!  For instance, avoid sleeping on your back, and avoid going to sleep on an empty stomach.  Eat some protein before going to bed, and lay on your side.

I promise you one thing however, my friend:  sleep deprivation is one of the things you can do to yourself absolutely GUARANTEE a rotten OBE experience, should one occur.  When they used to happen to me, I'd practically cry.

You've only started breath awareness today!  Good heavens. Be more patient with yourself, it takes time!

Pleasant dreams, get some sleep . . .

Thanks for the help guys. I try to learn breath awareness because Mr Bruce says it's such a great technique blah blah blah for calming the mind, and because it is used so extensively with OBE techniques I see myself lost without it. It's just that sitting there breathing and focusing I always think too much. I set myself 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week on mind taming exercises, because I follow the 90 day plan given on the site. But breath-awareness day is annoying because out of those 5 minutes, I got about 2 seconds worth of blank mind O_o.

Thanks again though

No amount of rigorous training, sitting and doing nothing, and clearing one's mind can help a man who hasn't overcome his doubts.

Anybody can help with either or both of these problems would be much appreciated.
