Is insomnia a barrier to successful OBE

Ive only had one obe. And it took 2 hours , I got the vibrations and did a partial separation. Since then ive tried everyday and failed and it seems like its my insomnia or inability to sleep.

I normally suffer from insomnia. It takes me about 1-2 hours in bed to get to sleep.

Question I have. I understand that OBE might possibly be "body asleep , mind awake". So does this mean that to have an OBE ..you would have had the potential to sleep in that given period "body asleep , mind asleep".

Because when i fail an OBE , i think that even if i had simply decided to sleep in that given period , I probably would have failed a simple "sleep" let alone an "obe".

I know I need to try more in the morning.

This is the part that confused me for over 10 years... and I see the same confusion in many people.

The term "mind awake/body asleep"... it's a HORRIBLE term.  Robert Monroe actually did a massive disservice to the world by creating it.

The "mind awake" part is fine... it's the "body asleep" part that sucks, because at NO POINT do you ever have to put your body asleep to project.

What it should be is "mind awake/body disassociated"... but it just doesn't have the same ring to it.  To project, you only need to, in essence, forget about the physical.  Not put your body to sleep.  Now, you *CAN* put your body to sleep, but it's not necessary and more often than not, doing so (especially for beginners) will simply trigger the normal sleep state in you and you'll lose that mind awake almost immediately.

The best place to start in doing this is learning the basics of meditation.  Learn to focus your attention away from your physical body and its physical surroundings.  :)

No insomnia will not keep you from projecting. The only thing stopping you, is YOU and your mindset. I'm going to echo Ryan, don't worry about "Mind awake/Body asleep" Just work on relaxation, that's all you need.

I have chronic insomnia since diagnosed since age 13 and if anything it has only helped encourage my projecting.
I wandered slowly there
I saw a field where a thousand corpses lie
Angels sang the hymn of the end
About monsters which they fought
Over our world

stay up for a few days, you'll have a kick-butt obe.

Agree - me too. My problem is waking up during the night then difficulties getting back to sleep.

On bad times I will leave my bedroom and go and sit in another room such as my living room. I often find leaving my bed and then dozing off in a chair/couch is easier than trying to fall back to sleep in my bed. On most occasions this then triggers am OBE.

I think the sleep deprivation allows me to relax more and subsequently separate.

I would strongly encourage you to practice meditation and pursue the goal of a conscious exit OOBE, insomnia be darned.

I suffered from the same insomnia you currently deal with for at least a decade, perhaps longer.  I would lay down in bed and, on a good night, go to sleep in an hour.  On a bad night, it could take three or four hours.  Normally it took two.

Learning to meditate, prepare for an OOBE, and a little self-hypnosis has entirely cured my insomnia.  100%.
