Is this the ideal state?

I didn't get a lot of sleep last and went to uni for a few hours today.

On my train home I was really tired and slumped on the table to sleep a little. I was fully conscious but could feel myself falling asleep but sort of feel this pull up the way and then back down again. This happened a number of times.

Was this a small separation? There were no vibrations and I was conscious, was pretty weird.

Yeah, you were going through the beginning stages of "seperating" from your body. You felt your body fall asleep but your mind was awake, so you went through the "Mind awake, Body asleep" process. Keep up your awareness like this and you will  be out in no time. And you do not have to have vibrations to leave your body. I get vibrations 8 times outta 10. If I do not have vibrations I will have the excact same experience you have, it feels almost like a weightless disassociation from your physical body. Keep up the good work! :-) But many people will tell you that the ideal time to leave your body is right after you wake up in the morning. Or waking yourself 1 or 2 hours before your usual time to get up is even more ideal to seperate from your body. Try giving it a shot, it really helped me.
So close but so far to projecting. It'll come one day, i'll just have to wait.
