Something helpful I've found to stay in OBE

Getting the OBE (my method)

Firstly, I should mention the method I find myself using to reach an OBE/Astral projection. During a regular dream at night, I'll become lucid and I'll fly around for a few minutes until I decide I want to go "deeper" into an OBE/Astral projection. To do this, I lie flat on the ground and completely stop what I'm doing in my dream and close my eyes. (I'm sure just closing ur eyes in the dream with any posture will work... Lying down and closing eyes as if going to sleep in a regular dream even without being lucid has also triggered the OBE).

After a few seconds of shutting out the normal dream, I get the exploding head syndrome and vibrations (without the loud noises now, by the way, though I used to always get the noise when I first started, hm...) and the visuals usually spontaneously fade in after this and there I am in the OBE :).

Maintaining the OBE (my method)

But I had the trouble of maintaining the OBE's...Mine would last between 3-30 seconds but thankfully I've found a way to lengthen my OBEs! I try to focus all my energy into the vibrations and make the beginning, non-visual OBE last as long as possible...THe longer the vibrations and "exploding head syndrome" last for, the more "locked in" and vivid my OBE is. One experience, the vibrational stage lasted somewhere between 30-60 seconds but when the visuals finally started, they were more vivid than I've ever remembered seeing before! And I was so locked into the OBE I stayed very conscious for I'm guessing at least 5 minutes, maybe a bit longer...definitely my record so far :)

The only draw back I've found with this method is that whenever I use the method of lengthening/focusing more on the vibrational stage, I almost always have false awakenings, which can be frightening/confusing/frustrating if you're not used to them...Actually, they still scare me a little, because I'm always certain I finally wake up, just to realise I'm still dreaming :P

Well, whatever works for you. If you want to find out more about deepening techniques in order to prolong the experience, here's a good site: www.obe4u.com

Speaking of false awakenings...I'm glad my wife recently had a false awakening/lucid dream by accidentally doing an indirect technique in the morning. She was not planning to enter the Phase, btw. She woke up and then decided to sleep for a little while longer but bearing in mind that she would have to wake up soon to make breakfast for the kids. She got up (not knowing she was entering the Phase by doing so) and thought the kids had asked her to get up to make breakfast. On the way to their rooms she decided to sit in the hallway and rest for a while as the kids usually play in their rooms while they wait. Then she noticed a banister and staircase anomaly. She thought "hang on a minute...some of the uprights are missing...I must be dreaming..." - then she woke up. I told her to apply some deepening techniques if she has an OOBE or lucid dream again... 8-)

Hehe interesting story :) Once my father knocked on my window to let him at in at around 4AM one morning in real life, and so I went and let him in and then went right back to sleep...a few minutes later, I dreamt the same thing happened and I wasn't aware it was a dream until I lied back down on my bed (in the dream) and I got the exploding head syndrome + vibrations and got an OBE...hehehe so beginners might like to wake themselves up, do something for a couple of minutes, then go back to sleep with the intention to have an OBE and you might have better luck :)

Hi ausdreamer,

What you say is correct. It seems that sleeping for a bit. Then waking up (and getting up for a few mins) then going back to bed and wham you can head off on an astral journey. Im getting to the point where I might just set my alarm in the middle of the night and get up and go back to bed and try it.. and keep trying it.

But then again my sleep is all messed up anyway due to the fact its bloody hot down here now and I dont have air con :(

A regards pro-longing: I learnt (or was probably taught by intuition) that focussing on sth visually with all might can help. E.g. I look at my hands in the astral when I feel that I am fading. The good thing is, that often I feel by electrical sensations ("PREES") around my body when I'm beginning to fade, so I can counter-act it this way. I look at my hands and say 'focus, focus' or sth similar. Helped me quite well a few times.

Personally i do one of two things: 1. Do the purple flame and root myself in the realm. 2. Demand for clear vision and a lengthy projection.
