I hope you meant with dark and light not somekind of astral realms, but the condition of the room where you attempt to have an obe.

Many people link darkness with something negative, light with something positive. For example: light = angel - dark = devil, light = love - dark = hatred, light = nice - dark = not nice etc.

With this kind of thinking one could - or probably does - influence the obe. So if you link dark with something negative, you could encounter something negative in the dark.

So I'd say, if you feel better with lights on, do it so. If you don't care, try what suits you.

There is never anything to Fear.  But we still do anyway, LOL.  If you are concerned about Negs then simply shield yourself using White Light or your own energy.  When new to AP'ing it is a good idea to use this protective shield, at least until your are self-empowered, after which time you won't need it again.

We might want to spend as much time out of body as possible.  I don't know if we would scare ourselves under those circumstances.  And I'm not sure of what I would believe about it, if I chose to believe anything.  []
