One big thing I can tell from your post above, and please don't take this personally... you're impatient. You'll need to work on slowing down a bit and enjoying the scenery.
Learn to meditate first. You need to build yourself a firm foundation in controlling your mind/consciousness.
In essence, you need to learn to walk before you can run and begins with learning to crawl first. :)
Yup, what Xanth said. Personally I'd be hard pushed to believe anyone who says that they can astral travel at will.
Even for experienced people it takes being in the correct mindset and having the correct conditions around them, and even then its not a given.
