Good evening!

I have a few questions for you all and was hoping to get some answers. I have not had an out of body experience yet. (Perhaps I have but didn't remember it.) Although, I have gotten very close. I have had the famous "symptoms" including the falling sensation, rapid heartbeat, and static like energy feeling throughout my body. A few times I have jolted up while lying down. I have experienced the sleep paralysis a few times as well but that was before I started reading about astral projection and it scared me half to death. I just wanted to throw a few questions out that have been in my head for a while.

1. I have been reading Robert Bruce's book "Astral Dynamics" and I am having a really hard time understanding the mind split theory. When I am having my symptoms... (Rapid heartbeat, falling sensation, etc...) about how far away am I from projecting? I am also confused about the vision during an OBE. How do I see out of my astral body when my physical body's eyes are shut? Will it kinda switch over to my astral body naturally?

2. I did a search on here about the rapid heartbeat. The first time I felt that I couldn't go through with it because I thought I was literally going to have a heart attack. I do realize, and have read that it's your heart chakra and not the physical heart. Although, when I stopped the OBE process and opened my eyes my physical heart doubled from what it was. It was a mix between adrenaline and excitement I think. I have read some tips on controlling it but was also wondering if anyone else can maybe give me further assistance with the whole heart thing... I'd really appreciate it.

3.I have been hearing some strange noises occurring usually when I am extremely close to falling asleep or tired. I will be lying there for probably 30+ mins and if I haven't fallen asleep yet I will sometimes hear some very strange noises. A few nights ago I heard a whistle. This occurred right by my head. This didn't startle me for some reason... but I did notice it. I have also heard a really short bark... Like a dog bark, but this was more human. It was very strange. This morning I heard a women humming. Can anyone explain what this might be?

I really appreciate it!
Like I said I am new to these forums. This looks like a great place to gain knowledge from and everyone seems really friendly here.
I hope to talk to you all soon.

Forget about the mind split theory.  :)
Actually forget about any theory, at this stage in the game it's useless information to you.
Focus entirely upon learning to have experiences.

Lots of people seem to experience this.  They seem to come to the conclusion that it's their "heart energy center".  The aftereffects you noticed when you stopped was probably due to excitement, as you mentioned.  :)

Hypnogogic sounds.  They're perfectly normal.  I ignore them and just continue whatever it is I'm doing.

The name of game here Cody is Passively Observe. You will see that your own conscious can put up many roadblock/obstacles. They are like "tests" and you need to just relax and continue through them to succeed.

@ Ryan- Thanks Ryan!
I will focus more on getting out of body. To be honest I have a really hard time grasping information unless I experience it for myself, or have it visually available in front of me in pictures. It is very hard for me to understand words sometimes while reading. I just need to find a good projection technique and keep going at it.

I appreciate it Ryan. :)

@ Lionheart- I will definitely keep this in mind! I will try to relax more and observe whats going on as well. I know I am extremely close to getting out of body. I just need to simply relax.

Thanks for your input Lionheart. :)

Greetings Army Of One.
Regarding your questions.
Question. # 1. I am generally in agreement with Ryan here. Theories and concepts are fine as far as it goes for general info. Yet focusing on How-To methods is much more important, especially for a person who is not experienced at OBEs.

Question #2 Going out of body is a Mental practice. The physical body is best asleep, or in trance or in deep meditation. This way the excitement of going out of body has minimum effect on the physical body. Anytime the focus is brought back to the physical body, for whatever reason, it is highly likely that the process of going OOB will be aborted or an already happening OBE will quickly end.

Question # 3 Strange noises, especially whirrings, rushings and roaring sounds, are actually Very common occurrances, usually just before an OBE begins. So there is nothing to be alarmed about. These unusual sounds, along with vibrations and sleep paralysis, are common and accurate signs that an OBE is about to occur.

I agree with all the above, but I want to suggest one thing - throw Astral Dynamics on the shelf for now!

The information is very, lets say, in depth (aka confusing) for someone starting out.  I personally think its too much to swallow at first.  It was the first book I read on the subject and it did NOTHING to help me project.  Projection is like learning to ride a bike.  You start with training wheels then when you have mastered that, you have them taken off.  I suggest the same with projection.  (I just want to point out, I am back on training wheels at the moment!).

The first bit of reading that got me my first OBE was the ebook at www.vehram.com.  The simple technique described uses your sleep cycles to your advantage, rather than lying down trying to meditate which IMHO is near impossible for a beginner to all of this.  If you are a beginner in meditation, its unlikely that you will be able to get to a state ready for projection without lots of practice.  However it just so happens that the sleep cycle provides the PERFECT state for projection - use it!  Once you get used to projecting in this manner, move on to the wake incuded techniques.

As far as reading a book goes, I would recommend "Astral Projection and the Nature of Reality" by John Magnus.  It is simply his direct accounts of his experience along with excellent practical techniques and tips - no esoteric / scientific theory getting in the way as in Astral Dynamics!

@Grey Thanks for your reply! Regarding my second question... Approximately how many seconds (or mins) or more... am I from astral projecting with the symptoms I described? Static like feeling... Racing heart feeling... falling sensation... etc. With practice I can definitely work on trying to keep my heart rate down. (Physical heart from excitement/adrenaline.) Thanks Grey. :)

@ A-B This relieves me alot! I will not even begin to describe how confusing astral dynamics was for me. I ill check out those books you mentioned and start working on a projection technique as well. I really appreciate it! PS: For some reason the link isn't working for me! Is it maybe misspelled? Thanks again Astral Beginnings

Thanks everyone. These forums are great. I can't wait for my first OBE.
