Since when has there been a live Astral chat on mirc? Is this new?

Selski

No it's not new, but it's an alternative way of accessing the Chat link on the website.  A few people said they preferred using mIRC, rather than Java, so I had a go at it myself and I must say, I prefer it too.

Hi Sarah,

Very much appreciate the effort you have gone to here [^]

Thx,

Stephen [:)]

Selski

Phew, thanks Stephen.  I thought I might be in trouble with a Moderator for a minute there!!

I didn't even know there even was a live chat. :(

What day / time is it open?

Selski

I think it's open all the time, but I don't rightly know.

On the opening page of the Astral Pulse website, there is an option along the top to 'Chat' (it's not in the Forum page, but in the main page).  If you click on this, you get taken to the chat room, via Java.  You need to fill in a few boxes and wait a few seconds, but eventually, you should get in.  I think some people have problems understanding how it works (I only got in through trial and error and a lot of luck!), which is why someone else suggested mIRC, which in turn is why I've added this thread!!

Perhaps the 'Chat' link should be in the Forum page?  One for the technical gurus - I'll go and suggest it in the appropriate section.

I managed to download and install mIRC, and connect to Astral Pulse's Chat this weekend, which was pretty good for me!

Anyway, I've put what I did below to help those who wish to use the Chat facility.

I hope it works.  If I'd made any obvious errors, and someone with knowledge knows what I've done wrong, please correct me, as I'm not very technical-minded.

If you can't get in this way, let me know, but I can't promise I'll know what to do!!

Good luck.

To use an old and tired cliché, if I can do it, anyone can!

Go into www.mirc.com and read it.  Download the version suitable for you.

I know it's boring, but I would advise you read the sections and get to know it a bit, if you have no knowledge of IRCs (as I didn't until Saturday!).

Now go into the mIRC icon.  Click on 'File' and 'Select Server'.  In the Category box, highlight 'Servers'.  At the IRC Server box, click 'Add'.

In the description, put AstralChat Server
In the IRC Server, put    irc.webmaster.com
In the Port, put    7000
In the Group, put   AstralChat

Now, making sure your Select Server box shows AstralChat Server, click on Connect.

An mIRC Favourites box should come up.  At the top type #AstralChat and then click Join.

This should take you to the chat room.

Hope to see you there soon.
