You're the first I've ever seen had issues remotely resemblant to mine. The problem has nothing to do with the Rope. It has everything to do with your focus and your approach. In a case like this, it's very hard to actually give someone advice in how to climb it. When they say that it's better to try and not visualize, what they really mean is not to focus on the ROPE at all . . . be it an understanding of what it looks like, the image, or whatever. On The real success comes from focusing on the efforts of climing.

If you're having problems, try this. Come back to me and tell me if it worked or not and what your results were:

First, focus your mind through by shifting your focus away from your body. Pick a spot in your room -- any spot -- and then close your eyes and focus all your attention on there. Like trying to squeeze a ball of muck. It's hard because the focus tries to seep away like water.

Do this for some time, until you feel ready to proceed. I do this for anywhere from 5 - 10 minutes. At this point in time, my focus falls off my immediate surroundings. I'm still aware of them, but I'm not picturing them (or sensing them). Everything becomes blacker.

My body also feels relaxed. I'd say my focus still rests on it about 5%. I still unintentionally focus on it because I can still feel my body, and there are also the additional sensations of pressure, heaviness, etc. (Personal problems. This may not apply to you).

Now that your center of focus is outside of your body, and you've given your mind enough time to fall into this state, perform the climbing ritual. You need to remember two things. Hold your focus and Climb.

I'm still mastering the climbing method, but I'm improving at it gradually. It's hard to understand what is meant by the process of unlearning that many say they go through until you begin to experience the progress first-hand.

When laying down, use a light blanket (so that it just rests on top of you). It keeps you a bit comfy, but it shouldn't distract you. I keep my feet outside of the blanket because I'm distracted if I keep them in. Unfortunately, my feet get a bit chilly when this happens so I wear some socks. So far, it's been working fine for me.

Lately, I've come to understand that climbing Rope is more about Focus than it is about self-hypnosis. The idea is to draw away attention from the body. Unfortunately, my body has a tendency to tense. I don't realize this until the last minute (when I stop a session). I've also come to familarize certain feelings with tensing (i.e. some of the things you feel may actually be coming from your body's involuntary responses).

When I started, my sense of the ROPE fell all over the place. First it was in one place, then it was falling over to 45 degrees from 90. The next thing I knew, I was climbing at 0 degrees horizontally (i.e. as if it were coming out of my crown chakra). Very awkward. If you're having this problem, it just means your focus needs to be stronger.

If there's anything else I was going to say, I can't remember it. Kudos.

One problem that I have with rope is that once I've started and been climbing for a minute or two, I stop and remember some other technique for projection and start trying that! I have an overload of methods and funnily enough this is counter-productive! therefore I just picked out the key points from everyone and the common ground covered between them. With this in mind I am going to develop my own method, probably based around my successful trial of a "walk about" around my flat. I found that after i walked around for 10 minutes or so I started getting exit sensations, eg a very floaty feeling and a pushing in my chest, even before I was in trance. Obviously this is a walk about in my mind, not physically!

Lysear: I have the same problem as well. My focus doesn't waver as frequently as yours does. I guess I can hold my concentration/focus better. Develop your ability to hold your focus on one thing.

Mine wavers, but I have to force it back to where it was before. I have to deal with the problem of concentrating too hard versus the problem of not concentrating hard enough (and having my focus wavering without my notice).

Insert A long while ago, I'd used to project. I didn't know that I was projecting and I got scared. And I only realised what I had been doing  since last november. I want to re experience it now that I rationalized what had happened. [8D]Climbing down a ladder seemed to have gotten me into the trance state quicker and deeper than rope. but I'm not sure if it was that I wasn't concentrating with the rope than the ladder. Thanx for the replies!

the nice thing about the rope technique if you ever try astral projecting during lucid state ie sleep 5hours wakeup for an hour then go back to sleep and then keep your mind alert like I am completely awake not daydreaming or engulfed in anything but I let go of it so i can drift to sleep, soon as I notice dream images forming I immediately snap back into full awareness/alertness start starring at the objects/persons knowing in the back of my head this is a dream and all of a sudden the dream scene fades away and I am in my bed looking throughout my closed eyelids, this is when I try to get out of my body, I slowly imagine how it is to getup and move out.  It was interesting yesterday for example I tried it I couldn't get out then all of a sudden I was snapped back into a dream scene again then I snapped back into my awareness/alertness and again the dream dissipitated and I got out finally.  When I initially tried getting out of my body sometimes I would come out but still be partially stuck so the rope technique did help to break loose.

There was actually a couple of times when rope seemed effective for me. I had read that it is possible to test the reaction to the method by relaxing, taking a few deep breaths, and trying the rope for a few seconds. Twenty to thirty seconds of climbing is more than enough. I was sitting in front of my computer, looking at the screen. Yes, my eyes were open and I was sitting up. Not even using the back rest. There was no way to expect anything and yet it suddenly felt like I was falling forward. It was a very good sign, but the moment I actually tried to project it was gone.

Tom: You know, it's funny. When I'm sitting in front of my computer sometimes, I start to feel like I'm stretching, expanding. I'm looking out through my eyes, but my hands feel like they're 6 feet below my center of focus (between my eyes). I'm calm during these times. Since I'm focusing on the comp, nothing's going through my head. It's bizarre and totally disorienting!

I get the sensations from ROPE the instant I start it.
Where I fall down at the moment is keeping them going - main problem is my body reacts and tenses up, and bang goes that nice relaxed state.
But another problem I have is where I somehow switch over from "pulling myself up the rope" to "pulling the rope down to me" - I'm still doing the same climbing effort, but I stop feeling like I'm pulling myself up, and start feeling like I'm laying in place and yanking the rope towards me.
Ahh, imagination :)

My mind hates me. Whenever I try rope, i focus on climbing it, then the rope runs out and i fall.[xx(] However, I have an alarm clock right next to my bed. One morning, it went off and I hit the snooze button. I started to drift off but managed to pull myself back. The alarm went off again and I sat up to turn it off. I turned it off but nothing happened. I tried it a few more times but it wouldn't stop. I lay back down and felt a sort of hiccup through my whole body. I turned it off again and it worked. Could this have been an OBE?

I have had all the problems that you all have had.  I have not had a conscious projection yet but I counldnt even get to the vibrational state.  I too would tense up or stop climbing or feel the rope coming to me.  What happens it when you pull on rope you go to trance state.  Trance state is where you feel the vibrations.  I have had better luck with the mental falling then with rope.  The deeper you go the closer your body is to sleeping which basicly is the trance state mind awake body asleep.  I have found that when I start to feel some good signs of trance the heavy legs the tingly legs and arms that your concentration cant be too strong.  I mean that if you concentrate too hard on climbing or mental falling you are not relaxed enough to have vibrations come.
When I feel heavy or tingly then I stop mental falling and take a deep breath and I relax like I want to go to sleep but in back of my mind I still think about mental falling.  I have achieved vibrations of some sort 2 out of the 3 times I practiced.
I practiced for 2 years hard real hard.  I took 2 years off and was never really away from it but now starting again seriously.  I had to forget how I was doing it before becouse I was locked into my routine.  I always was looking at my body for signs which means you cant get vibrations becouse you are not thinking about outside the body you are so intent on the body.
I hope some of this helped I am not sure I explained it very well.  I feel what I am doing is right for me and hopefully I will have a conscious exit soon.  I have had several experiences just not conscious ones.

Yesterday, I was trying to get some sleep. I was lying without pillows and I was on my back. I wasn't tired at all. I then got a ton of vertigo and near paralyis. It was similar to when I used to project when I was little without knowing what had happened.

truth

My energy body has much improved. tonight, i'll try to project.

The farthest I have made it was to the light trance and usually you do the rope exercise.
