After my first out of body experience last Friday, I have come to the conclusion that not only is it very real, but that the descriptions of it are uncannily accurate.
So I've had the whole "seeing through closed eyelids" multiple times before, just never could really progress beyond that. I honestly never had anything to prove to me that it wasn't just a dream.
But on Friday morning, when I was floating around my room, I decided to feel the silver cord to see if it was there. Not only was it there, but it was vastly different than what I expected. I was expecting something like a ribbon or a thick string. Instead what I felt was a fibrous rope, about two inches thick, composed of many individual cords bundled together, going into my back in multiple different places. I wrote this description down as soon as I woke up.
Later that day, when I was reading from Robert Monroe's "Journeys Out of Body" I came across this about the silver cord:
"I felt the base, and it felt exactly like the spread-out roots of a tree radiating out from the basic trunk. The roots slanted outward and into my back down as far as the middle of my torso, up to my neck, and into the shoulders on each side. I reached outward, and it formed into a "cord," if you can call a two-inch-thick cable a "cord". It was hanging loosely, and I could feel its texture very definitely. It was body-warm to the touch and seemed to be composed of hundreds (thousands?) of tendonlike strands packed neatly together, but not twisted or spiraled. It was flexible, and seemed to have no skin covering."
When I read this, my jaw dropped. This is a completely perfect description of what I experienced. Now a skeptic might say, "Well your subconscious mind was just bringing something up that you heard before, not what you expected". The problem with this idea is that I had never read this before.
Actually, every other e-book or online source that I have read since then has given an identical description.
I think the probability of me coming up with the exact same description of the silver cord is unlikely to the point of being impossible.
Before this Friday, I was still somewhat skeptical that out of body experiences are not just strange dreams. I now 100% know that this is real, and that we really are more than just physical matter.
I have never felt or seen the chord you speak of in all of my experiences, but I do share a similar "ah-ha" type moment after reading "Journeys out of the Body". I had these experiences for years, not really knowing what they were, or if they were at all an indicator of healthiness or my being crazy. I just happened to see a copy of the newly released Journeys Out of the Body in a bookstore window as I was walking by. I went in, found a copy of it and opened at random to a description of one of Monroe's OOBEs. It was exactly what I had been experiencing. I started to shake right there in the store- and not pre OOBE vibrations- This was really the first time I had seen anything close to a description of what happened to me, and at that moment I knew I was not alone.
yep same as you
I thought people were making it up until i had one, it scared the living daylights out of me and i went back into the body but i did see my body
I didnt see a cord though but then it was fast
maybe part of the trick is remembering and then being conscious when in the dream
Great experience, thanks for posting. Thoase kinds of things are just what people need to really get motivated
Hi all
Tr0798
Thanx for posting your OBE here.
I agree with the others who have posted here in that I 100% believe in the validity of OBEs after having experienced many myself. But, strangely enough I have never seen a silver cord before. In fact the mention of a silver cord is a rather rare event. I did an informal survey of OBE experiences and found that the silver cord is seen only about 5% of the time.
btw I am also a BIG fan of Monroe and have read all 3 of his books. The scarcity of reports mentioning a silver cord is yet another unexplained aspect of the out of body phenomena.
Regards 8-)

Cool experience, in all of my OBE's I have never seen or really even looked for this cord
Thanks for sharing. This type of post helps humanity so much.

It's amazing how persistent this illusion of physical reality is huh? Billions of years of Earth history or so it appears on the surface. Actually we're breathing in the same moment that the Earth was created, that the universe was created.
I am not saying that the physical is not real, just that there is an incredible depth to everything that is far to often overlooked.
dbmathis, I completely agree with your statement, not many people can even imagine the depth of everything, even the simplest things are really amazing..
Inkheart
