I feel for you brother! I was like that untill I found my guide. Im very better now. I remember when trances got me into OBE's and what not. The trances were a stepping stone for me. They eventualy stopped and I almost lost hope because it was harder. I too am the only one in my family that knowes about OBE/AP/LD and this forum is my only source.

So I tried Astral Phasing. Visit the following link for an easy way to Astral Phase: http://www.astralpulse.com/locale

I was sucessfull partialy using that method. I did not project but it improved my imaginary, and relaxation skills. I also learned what Astral Phasing is.

Then I tried something that completley changed my outlook on OBE/AP/LD's. It was my guide!

One night I decided to do what Rishno(spelling)- he is a forum member here...told me to do. It was to think of me being in my relaxation place then tell my guide to come out of the shadows. Then my guide, John came out. TADA! We talked long and he helped me get either get close to an OBE or have me experience an OBE but not remember it.

I use that technigue all the time and it gives me a 100% outlook on OBE's/AP/LD.

Click the following link for my complete story of my first Non-Rememberable OBE: http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8510

Hope that helps!

Very Best,

Nomus you are absolutely not alone.  I started practicing for an AP when I was 17, and didn't have a weird sensation until I was 21 (my current age).  I got really frustrated because I saw so many posts of people saying "finally after a month of trying I got it".  "A month?" I would say to myself, I've been trying for years with no results.  I wondered if it was really meant for everyone or just gifted people that found a stroke of luck.  Then after a long meditation the answer came to me.
I was looking for answers everywhere!  I wanted someone to say "this is how you do it" and then it would work, but that was never the case.  It's always a personal experience, no matter who you are.  And often times, certain lessons in life need to be learned before the correct mentality can allow you to achieve an astral projection.  I'm not sure, but you've probably heard of Robert Monroe (the new age pioneer in the field of astral projection).
If it wasn't for him, astral projection might not even be so common as it is today.  My point it, though it happened naturally for him, he was in his 50's before it ever started.  I don't know how old you are, but if you are young, you have so much time to discover what is right for you.  The key is finding what works FOR YOU.  There are many suggestions by many different people, but you can't just listen to everyone and assume they know what they are talking about.
There are thousands of people on this forum, and you must be skeptical, because not everyone knows what they are doing.  The best advice I can give is this... you must let go.  Stop expecting something to happen, stop wondering what you are doing wrong, and simply bask in the moment.  When you practice, stop trying so hard to follow all the guide lines, and just relent.  Let go completely and accept everything that comes.  If after and hour you feel nothing, try for two hours.  If after two hours you get bored, ignore it and go for three.  It's a completely natural process, but the length of time it takes for everyone is different.  You need to let go of all your doubts, all your frustrations, and everything that you THINK you know, and just let go and let nature take it's course.  It's not a matter of how, but when.
The one thing that causes an AP is staying concious while you go to sleep.  There is really nothing more to it.  So try working on that.  When you drift into dream world, pull yourself out mentally while remaining in the same state physically.  Eventually, you will be able to continuously pull yourself out of sleep as your body drifts off deeper, untill finally you succeed.  But you must not put a time frame on it.  It will happen when it happens.  Your success and your failure is determined by your own diligence.  You have the rest of your life to succeed, and even if you are 80 before it happens... it will still be a million times more satisfying then never succeeding at all!

P.S.  Sorry for the long reply [:D]

It may take years to master, but you may be surprised at how quick the average Joe can have an OBE when he doesn't try so hard.

I've read that the first one is the most difficult, after that it gets easier, if this is true, then can someone help me at least for this one time?

This was the case for me.  My first OBE happened out of the blue when I least expected it.  Since, then, I've averaged one every week or so.  Sometimes I'll have 3 in a week.  Other times, I've gone months without one.  Fortunately, I seem to be on a hot streak right now.

I can't talk to anyone physically, so I thought maybe someone from here that can actually project. I just would like to experience this "astral world" that everyone keeps talking about, Even if I have to keep it short (which I think is reccomended). My goal is just to get out so I can have one under my belt.

If I might make a suggestion, here is what worked for me (and still does):

1) Read about OBE's before laying down for bed.  Right now, I'm re-re-re-reading Robert Monroe's first book, Journeys Out Of The Body.  If you don't have this classic yet, GET IT.

2) After laying your book down (or even if you don't read that night), practice some OBE techniques.  Basically, you just want to take about 10 minutes and relax your body.  Then take another 10 minutes and relax your mind.  After that, just focus your attention away from your physical body but don't concentrate on it.

For example, pick a point on the other side of the room and just mentally hold that point in your mind.  What this does is that it takes the focus off your body and mind, but still holds your awareness onto something.

It is anywhere after this point that you look for a slight and minute shift in consciousness.  It's a transistion which is all too familiar to people who have experienced OBE's before.  When this shift is upon you, you'll be able to move your astral body around, hear astral sounds, see astral things, etc.

Another technique people do is instead of focusing on one point, they simply observe the hypnogogic imagery that passes before their field of vision.  This accomplishes the same thing, in that it keeps you focused on something while your mind and body are busy preparing for an OBE.

3) Even if you fall asleep after doing the above two steps, this is OK.  You'll find that you will either snap awake in the middle of the night in the midst of a projection, or you will have really lucid dreams, or worse case scenario, nothing will happen.

However, one thing to keep in mind that there is no such thing as a failed attempt to OBE.  The more you practice, the more you are training yourself to focus inwards and not outwards, and this is the key.  Just because you don't have an OBE does not mean all is lost.
Keep smiling,

Thanks for all the advice. I just re read what I posted and at the very bottom it says:

If it is absolutely unadvisable to do this, let me know, because I actually don't know.

What I meant was in relation to someone help pull me out or something.

About me trying so hard...I'm actually trying less. Before I joined this forum I tried really hard, to the point of my body aching, and taking a lot of energy out of me. I guess it's because I've been going on for about 6 months and no sucess. I am happy about my dreams though.

Thank you! That's what I've been expecting. I've been looking for answers, and yes, I did want someone to say "this is how you do it" I know now I need to find it in myself.

One other thing is, I think my stress level has gone way up. I didn't notice this until yesterday. When I was able to get into trance and all that, it was the end of school and throughout the summer. Since school has started I haven't been able to get into trance. The furthest I've gone is my arms had a light tinlge.

Thanks for everything, and jc84corvette, I'll try that Island thing. It's a cool picture. It will soon be on my desktop.

I think that most of us are in the same boat concerning people around us not understanding what we are doing.  It is normal for a person to want to share their persuits with those they care for but sometimes people get a bit closed-minded when it comes to things they don't understand so just continue with your work and remember that each of your friends and relatives are following their own paths.

The first projection is always an important milestone but is not always the most difficult as it can happen when least expected.  The previous posts are excellent and should help you a great deal.   Sometimes it's good to just sit back and be the Observer during these practices.  Projection is actually such a normal and simple thing. As you no doubt know, every time we go to sleep our astral double leaves our physical bodies and all we really need to do is stay awake long enough to hitch a conscious ride with it. What I will sometimes do, and it may be a bit sneaky, is to go thru the relaxation part and then just mentally sit in a corner and observe the entire going-to-sleep process with all the attendant sounds, etc., while not getting attached to any of them.  Just be the Observer.  And don't feel any pressure to have to succeed each time you try. Consider each try a learning experience. Good luck.

As some of you may remember. I've been having trouble APing. I don't want to give up but, it's actually getting harder. I can't consentrate nearly as much as I was able to. I haven't even gone into deep trance since a little before the last time I posted (like sometime in very early september). Basically, I'm asking for a new kind of help (at least to me). My big problem is, nobody knows that I'm trying to do this. I'm completly (in terms of people I actually know) alone. I can only seek help at places like this forum, and from books. I have tried that and am in need something else, a different kind of instruction. I understand that this sort of thing may take years to learn, I just don't want that to be me. Can someone help me? I've read that the first one is the most difficult, after that it gets easier, if this is true, then can someone help me at least for this one time? I can't talk to anyone physically, so I thought maybe someone from here that can actually project. I just would like to experience this "astral world" that everyone keeps talking about, Even if I have to keep it short (which I think is reccomended). My goal is just to get out so I can have one under my belt. (I started this journal hoping it would help, I have yet to write a projection)

Some things haven't changed though, I still have lucid dreams and when I have them I usually try to fly, (I usually just end up leaping very large distances. And my dreams (when I am lucid) still feel very real (I can actually 'sometimes' feel and hear the wind and smell where I am vividly). That progress hasn't been undone.

Sorry for the long rant,

I won't be back on until about 2:10 tommorow Pacific time. So until then I won't be able to read any responses. If it is absolutely unadvisable to do this, let me know, because I actually don't know.
