Been experiencing "sleep paralysis" since I was a kid... that experience of being awake mentally, but asleep physically.. it is always really frightening when it happens, I mean it really sent me into a panic(I dont mind so much now)... I used to be able to snap out of it by just mustering every ounce of strength in me and giving a mighty mental push to force myself out of it..but it is extremely draining... research into sleep paraylisis led me to the subject of Astral Projection. I am fascinated by it and want to do it.  I bought Mr. Monroes Hemi-Sync courses and several books on the subject...but I want to get to the meat and potatoes..

my questions..

1.) is this "sleep paralysis" the first part of the AP process??

2.) what is the best guide book you have ever read??  I am currently reading "Astral Dynamics" which i find really great so far.

3.) any other feedback/tips?

No, the first part would be relaxing your muscles and then raising your energy/opening your chakras.

Astral Dynamics is a good book but Robert Bruce's views are different than a lot of other people's, so it's best to read everything you can on the subject in order to get a clear picture.

Search the forum for people with sleep paralysis and how they use it to astral project.

The best way to escape out of SP is by breathing deeply for a few seconds or by moving your big toe. Fighting it is unnecessary.

If by AP Process you mean the process of getting out, then no, SP is the last part, you are already out of your body during SP and are aware of being awake but not being able to move the physical body. SP is Oobe, but with ignorance of being Oob.

AD is a good book, also read MAP by the same author.

Also..

I remember once, as a kid, this really, really awesome sensation of lying down on my side, yet floating around the room as if i were flying.. I was so young then that when I awoke I thought the whole thing was a dream....is that common? I seemed to be aware of my surroundings as I was flying..

what are the best AP books??

It is very likely that you were having an OBE as a child. Some children do have them and think they are dreams.

Quotewhat are the best AP books??

As mentioned: Astral Dynamics and Mastering Astral Projection. William Buhlman also has some good books.
