Okay.. simplest explaination from this esteroic point of view:

When you woke up and saw her... You were most likely seeing through your third eye, using astral sight.  Now what was it that you saw?  Could be a lot of things but I think the most probable is this:

She could be asleep and projecting near you, watching you, wanting to be close to you without realizing she's even doing it.

Now, if she's not asleep it could be a lot of other things.. first thing is first, find out when she wakes up.

There's a book called Psychic Warrior, and I'm not sure who wrote it, and I've never actually read it myself, but my dad was telling me about it. He said that when you first start going to sleep your mind opens up or something, and the same thing when you wake up (hmm, maybe I have this wrong). This could explain it . . . I'll have to read the book, 'cause it sounded interesting. In my opinion, sounds like, uhm, I don't know, tele-visualization, or probably the oposite of that, where you bring somebody to you . . . or astral projection, who knows . . . well, somebody knows . . . anyway, good luck on that.

The book "Psychic Warrior" was written by David Morehouse and it is an excellent read.  It is an autobiography and describes his life starting with how, as a soldier, he was hit by a stray bullet (luckily he was wearing a helmet!) on his third eye which opened it up/activated it, leading to psychic experiences.  He was then recruited by the CIA and Defence Dept into a top-secret project called Stargate which trained viewers to project to predetermined times/locations, also universes; in other words these viewers were trained as psychic spies.  They were also given some very interesting locations with non-military objectives as part of their training and to validate their experiences with other viewers (examples of these are the Ark of the Covenent, the Nazi concentration camps, and another universe).  I believe this was part remote viewing, part astral projection.  When the project began training into remote influencing he then exposed Stargate.  You should definitely buy or borrow this book if possible.

hmmn, funny. i bought the book, read it, and didnt like it. but i didnt know that there was some truth to it, and didnt know it was an autobiography. cool[] maybe it was worth reading
