I am not an expert on obes (i never obed but i have been close to that) but i suppose that the tingling sensation it is just from being to much time without moving your body.
About techniques: explore the forum, you will foud many techniques.
The one that i am trying is the sleep paralysis (SP): SP is a normal phenomenon that every people have during night, in order to avoid your body to move during the night (this is science, not mystical theories). The problem is that people are never aware of this, only sometimes and very rarely (i must say that i am the only person, from my circle of friends, family, etc, etc, that "suffer" from the awareness of SP).
Even being an involuntary phenomenon (that it is not dangerous: everypeople have it, only a few of them can ve aware of it, in a involuntary manner) you can induce it. It is strange to explain how to do it (explore the forum, i thing i had have wrote something on it) but the basic idea is: sleep (in a normal night) then, by the early morning, wake up, go to the WC if need, then come back to the bed and try to get into sleep again.
Now, during the sleep process (while you are falling asleep) i must learn to be aware of the fact that all of your being is getting into sleep (it´s hard to exlain this part, especially since that english it is not my domain...). I mean, you must wake up your mind in the middle of the sleeping process, in the limb between the sleeping state and the lucid mind. YOu can learn to do this with some pratice.
If you get luck, you will wake up with your body completly paralised It´s a bad sensation if you dont know what is it: you just are not able to move even a finger! don´t panic, it´s normal and you can get"normal" easly: just start to breath deeply and try to move the fingers. After some seconds (30?, less, more?, varys) you will be normal.
But if you want to AP, just let your body bee with the SP. Now, after that you will try to move your astral body. Just think on that and it will happen. The same happend with me: i just wished to get out, and after some while i started to have a buzzing sensation and a very sweet and peaceful sensation all over my body. A kind of vibration, maybe an humming over all of your being. It was a great sensation! Beautiful. You will (maybe) listen loudy sounds, it´s normal, dont panic (even with deep meditation ou can have that).
After this senstions you will "slide" out of your body. The maximum that i have reached was until the part that some parts of my astral body started to "get out". I was stupid and get paniked and come back into my body again (for 2 or 3 times i blowed up everything!! arghhh!!).
But you must remember the gold rule: i all the occasions (since you go to the bed until the experience finish), dont force the experience, dont push to much. Go with it!
This is just one technique in many of them.
Good Luck and share your experiences with me, because i am learning too.[:)]
Hey fungihead,
I too am not an OBE expert; however, I believe that the tingling sensation in your hands is from stimulating your energy body. It just so happens your hands are a major inlet for energy, and trying to OBE stimulates energy intake. Anyway, if you are serious about astral projection, you would love Robert Bruce's Astral Dynamics. This is the most revolutionary book on astral projection I have seen; you can order it on www.amazon.com for not much money. Good luck!
books that i recommend:
astral dynamics - robert bruce
far journeys - robert monroe
ultimate journey - robert monroe
these titles will include MORE than enough of the information you are currently seeking. Monroe's books are more of his experiences and what he has learned, but RB's will definitely help you with astral projection if that is what you are trying to accomplish. no problem im kind of a n00b here too but dont worry, so was everyone.
I don't know who it is but someone out there has this quote for their sig. I think it is funny and very fitting here.
"Remember you were once the fastest swimmer in your group"
hey everybody
im jus writin to say that im gratefull to all your advice and i'll take it all up, by orderin some books and trying various techniques on the site.
i havent really had any experiences with APing yet, but when i do i will post them.
one thing i forgot to mention is that i started a dream diary as i heard somewere (might of been this site) that thinking about and recording dreams helps you to remember them, and makes lucrid dreams easier.
anyway thanks for the advice and ill be postin more messages about my experiences soon.

Funny when I started reading your post I had a huge inspiration to talk to you about dreams and the importance of keeping a log of them.
This is how it happened for me, and several others that I have talked to had very similar experiences.
At first we try to hard to AP because we want to hurry up and get there. Take the position of the driver and not the kid in the back seat saying are we there yet?
To be able to AP the brain literally has to learn new things. You don't go to the gym on the first day and expect to bench press 300lbs. (Kg).
Starting a dream log is the first step. It teaches the mind to become more aware and conscious of things that it normally does not look at.
Next you will start remembering your dreams. Sometimes you will remember 8-10 dreams in a single night. Your memories will become more and more clear, and easier to remember.
The simple act of writing down your dreams WITH AS MUCH DETAIL AS POSSIBLE teaches the conscious mind to pay attention. That is why this happens.
Next you will start to become lucid in your dreams, and even begin to alter or control them, by a simple desire to do so.
When that happens your conscious mind is starting to interact more with your subconscious mind. Many people, my self included have come to believe that there is literally a new neural network of nerves that literally is grown/built between the left and right hemispheres. Along with your cerebral cortex. (A nerve bundle that links left and right hemispheres together).
Now the conscious mind is in a much better place to be aware of things when you do AP.
See the important thing to understand is that we all literally AP each and every night. It is an important part of how our spirit regenerates when we sleep. The problem is that we have never taught our conscious mind to be "awake" when this happens. That is why we do not know about it.
im kinda in need of help from anyone who is willing.
im kinda new to the whole world of astral projection, meditation and the like. ive been interested in this for only about a week, and ive never tried anything like this but i am prepared to commit myself.
in that first week i have tried meditating and tried once to AP. i feel that i got someting out of the meditating and i enjoyed it. as for the APing, i dont know what are normal sensations, but i got a slight tingling in the sides of my hands for a short while , like it went numb, and then lost concentration.
all i ask is a little advice from people who know what they are doing, advice on how to meditate, ways to improve my concentration and the best methods of APing to try first. i also would be happy if someone could tell me about my little experience.
thanks for your help and advice
