Going back in time, is it about what you remember?

Right well the notion of one possibly being able to see their past events whilst in the astral plane may be considered a reinactment and such but I wondered: Can you only see what you personally recall happening back at that time the first time round?

Does the time travel/reinactment procedure depend upon what one remembers or can it be possible to see events that happened in the past even though one may not have clear recollection of them.

I consider this possibly not to be valid. Why? because of the evidence supporting hypnosis past life regression.
If we can indeed backtrack on past lives and see what happened during those time eras with seemingly no or little vagueness (as long as one is in deeply under) then this should be possible in Astral should it not? but of course not nessisarily a past life but past events in this life.

I've had so many OBE's where I'm watching from a different perspective like floating in mid air and basically I'll be watching myself and others from when I was a child.  Sometimes it can be a little uncomfortable but intriguing.
