Hi there

I'd like to know how to achieve waking up in the morning without moving or opening my eyes. (Affirmations?)

At night my body takes over the whole show and what my spirit wants is thrown out the window. There is no thought of OBE until after I've already woken up, walked all over the place, etc.

I wish to awaken early in the morning (3am) and do OBE attempts, directly from sleep.

My body has even been known to take off my headphones without my permission. Its like everything OBE related is thrown out the window when I go to sleep.

Thanks

Neil

You don't need to do that.  :)

What you're doing is fine.
You describe waking up, walking around... THEN you're remembering to OBE.  This is actually what you want to do.
You shouldn't attempt an OBE right after awakening.  Give it 15 - 30 minutes of lazying around first.  You want to wake up slightly, but not entirely.

I found that like you I would wake up then move around THEN remember not to!  Just keep with it, read about it think about it regularly and eventually your mind will learn and you will find yourself realising you are about to wake up and know not to move.

This seems to work for me anyway.

I've found that for me it has to begin before I even completely reach physical consciousness. There's a small part of my awareness that realizes I'm about to fully wake up, that's kinda half-in and half-out. It's another one of those awareness-balancing-acts, but if you catch it before you completely wake up you'll be headed in the right direction.

It takes practice and focus of awareness. Any exercises that help strengthen concentration and focus of awareness are worth doing a few minutes everyday. It'll help sharpen you up to so that the subtle state doesn't slip by unnoticed.

And if you have time, it's good to do like Xanth said: get up and move around for a bit, then get back in bed and make an attempt. You'll still be drowsy but won't fall right back to sleep too easily.

Thanks for the replies -

Xanth: I don't mind waking up and moving around (wake back to bed), but as Nicholas Newport said "Awakening without moving is a good lucid dreaming skill". For the SOBT method this is a fundamental part of the method, and also, Nicholas Newport said that he most often does the waking up without moving method.

If you do not move and don't open your eyes when you wake up, then you have a greater possibility of slipping into waking sleep paralysis. Seems logical, because your body doesn't know you're awake, and might fall asleep leaving  your mind awake.

Well thats the theory anyway.  Anybody got this to work?

I am not sure if it was responding to your comment but I managed to do this this morning. I became aware before I was physcially aware and managed to shuffle out of my body three times. (had difficulites afterwards)
