I asked a similar question about a year ago. I still had a lot of christian propaganda running through my head at the time. Messages and warnings from ministers telling us to stay right away from astral projection because leaving your body is like leaving your house - somebody could break in and take over while your gone. If you want to take that analogy to its logical conclusion what about a home invasion?
IMO, most of this paranoia comes from church leaders who are afraid of losing control of their flock because of what they might see in the big wide spirit world.
Besides, as MJ-12 pointed out, you dont really leave your body, only your conscious awareness does, and during that time, if anything alerts your physical body, you'll be back in it in an instant. As for entities that might want to possess you while you're AP'ing, your far more likely to be aware of them and be able to take action at that time than you are normally.
This is a fear that MUST be overcome before you can hope to AP, Otherwise it will hold you back.

Church leaders Are paranoid and in fear of losing control. And they have good reason to be concerned! The Church is sadly lacking in real spiritual teachings (those regarding OBEs) and Enlightnemnet. [V][:(]
I just want to add that when we obe we do not necessarily leave our physical body behind. In some of my OBE I've regain control on some parts of my physical body (at least for some time), moving them while still in an OBE. I've once OBE while struggling in sleep paralysis. I think it all depends on where we concentrate our mind or awarenesss more.
Im wondering why they'd have to be demons going in there. Why couldnt it be nice neutral people like those sitters who sit in people's spots during the Oscars or Grammys. Something like that?
