Ap Friends,

Here's something to have a little fun with! Kinda of get away from the serious topics.

Can you think of any songs that talk about astral projection, out of body experiences?

First song that comes to mind is Ozzy Osbourne 'Over the Mountains' he talks about 'Astral Plane, I travel to'.

Lets have some fun and see what we are able to come up with!

Tonight and the Rest of My Life, by Nina Gordon

Down to the earth I fell
With dripping wings
Heavy things won't fly

And the sky might catch on fire
And burn the axis of the world

That's why I prefer a sunless sky
To the glittering and stinging in my eyes

I feel so light
This is all I want to feel tonight

I feel so light
Tonight and the rest of my life

Gleaming in the dark sea
I'm as light as air
Floating there breathlessly

When the dream dissolves
I open up my eyes
I realize that
Everything is shoreless sea
A weightlessness is passing over me

Everything is waves and stars....

The universe is resting in my arms

I feel so light
This is all I want to feel tonight
I feel so light
Tonight and the rest of my life

60s psych from the 13th Floor Elevators:

Postures (Leave your body behind)

"You're moving, keep climbimg.
You're moving, keep climbimg.
You're wonderin'
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
What's on your mind
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
It's the one keystone people keep trying to find
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
The state of mind that puts you there
And evolution's everywhere,
it's creeping back from the affair.
So leave! Leave! Leave!
Leave your body behind.
Leave, Leave, Leave!
Leave your body behind.
Yes, yes, yes,
You can always come back
To live the desire you want on your track
Live the love that gives it's return
The higher you're livin', now, the purer it burns.
So keep climbin'
(Ooo, that energy's higher)
Keep on climbin'
(Your sun catches on fire)
Keep climbin' and bathe in the sun
The dawns and the darkness
Watch, the journey's begun
Remember, remember, Why can't you remember?
Remember that we're fallin'
Indifference from the love
It's only habit circumstance that fits you like a glove
Remember, that we're callin' in every cast to learn
It's spoken in the voices of the holy sound you earn
You've got to remember, remember.
You're form' can move,
You're shape is composed of edges.
You're form you can move,
Edges and ridges of your own energy!
Your own energy!
Your own energy!
Just a motion you feel.
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
And you're wonderin'
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
Who searched for this?
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
Only higher resistant consciousness and bliss
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
By feeling more love for the sense world you're seeing
You raise sense your income and your level of being
By finer and finer,
And finer agreeing you Leave!
Leave, Leave!
Leave your body behind!
Leave, Leave, Leave!
Leave your body behind!
Yes, yes, yes attention comes back
You focus on anchors,
You have what you lack.
Live the love each thought form returns.
Graze in the judgement of the ether that burns!
So keep climbin'
(Ooo, your energy's higher!)
Keep on climbin'
(Your sun catches on fire!)
Keep climbin'
The sun fills so soon
And gathers the clouds into a heavenly moon.
Remember, remember, Why can't you remember?
Remember we're bombarded,
The downpour of the word.
The outside means lock us in so all else seems absurd.
Remember things regarding,
Are terminals like you.
For terminals discharge against each other,
And balance syphoning through.
You've got to remember!
Remember!
You're form' can move,
You're shape is composed of edges.
You're form you can move,
Edges and ridges of your own energy!
Your own energy!
Your own energy!
Just a motion you feel.
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
And you're body and mind are one.
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
Your heart like cool ashes,
(You're moving, keep climbimg.)
The life sprays through your nippled eyes
Like ribbon through your lashes.
It ripples down with your heart's clear
you're mixed in two,
The poisoned ear.
The love you feel is love you hear.
You leave!
Leave! Leave!
Leave your body behind!
Leave! Leave! Leave!
Leave your body behind!
Remember, Remember, Remember, Remember
Keep on climbin'
Keep on climbin "

'Heaven Can Wait ' by "Iron Maiden"

'I can't understand what is happening to me
This isn't real, this is only a dream
but I never have felt, no I never have felt, this way before

I'm looking down at my body below,
I lie asleep as if in a dream
Is it now, could it be, the angel of death has come for me

I can't believe that really my time has come,
I don't feel ready, there's so much left undone
but it'soul and I'm not gonna let it get away.

Heaven can wait, Heaven can wait, Heaven can wait
Heaven can wait til another day.

I have a lust for the earth below,
and Hell itself is my only foe,
but I've no fear of dying, I'll go when I'm good and ready

I snatch a glimpse of Light's eternal rays rays,
I'm in a tunnel and stand amazed,
at all of the people standing there in front of me.

Into the paths of rightnous I'll be led,
Is this the place where the living join the dead,
I wish that this was only just a nightmare,

Heaven can wait, Heaven can wait, Heaven can wait,
Heaven can wait til another day.

Take my hand,
I'll lead you to the promised l
Take my hand,
I'll give you immortality
Eternal youth, I'll take you to the other side
To see the truth, The path for you is decided.

My body tingles, I feel so strange,
I feel so tired, I feel so drained,
and am wondering if I'll ever be the same again.

Is this in Limbo, or Heaven or Hell.
Maybe I'm going down there as well
I can't believe my soul will drift forever,

Now I feel myself floating back down to earth,
Could this be the hour of my rebirth,
Or will I die or will I wake from dreaming ?

I believe Freewill by Rush and some of the lyrical passages display traces of OBE/Spirituality.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.

Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete.

You can't pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate.

Artist: P.O.D.
Song: Alive

Everyday is a new day
I'm thankful for
Every breath I take
I won't take you for granted (I won't take you for granted)
So I learn from my mistakes
It's beyond my control
Sometimes it's best to let go
Whatever happens
In this lifetime
So I trust in love (so I trust in love)
You have given me
Peace of mind

Chorus:
I feel so alive
For the very first time
I can't deny you
I feel so alive
I feel so alive
For the very first time
And I think I can fly (fly)

Sunshine upon my face (sunshine upon my face)
A new song for me to sing
Tell the world
How I feel inside (Tell the world how I feel inside)
Even though it might
Cost me everything
Now that I know this
So beyond, I can't hold this
I can never
Turn my back away
Now that I've seen you (Now that I've seen you)
I can neva look away

Leyla, good one!  I heard that song at work all the time and I always thing about OBE's when I hear it.

Only song I could find words for... very metaphorical...

Staring from the Abyss by origin

http://www.origin-site.com/audio/Origin_-_Staring%20from%20the%20Abyss.mp3

We have returned to the edge of our lives
To gaze deeply within the meaning to just why we're here
Look deep inside all your miserable minds
Only then you will find the meaning to why you are here
There is no truth though you try to rebuke
What you're told, what you learn every day
Face it, you're bonked, you don't know when to stop
But your stop, it awaits the point in time that you step off
You are standing on the edge of all eternity
You can't see the black abyss and you can feel no peace
Plague at your door
Death and pure war
A world unkind
Is what you find
Transfixed by the torture
You can't turn back
On the edge of darkness
You're trapped, you're gagged, you're silent
Staring at the illness
That fills your world
Balance of existence
Offset, severed, it's no more
Everything is turned upside down
An abyss where nothing is found
Overcome, your shocked in terror
It's not real, it's just a vision
Plague at your door
Death and pure war
Blindly staring
In the abyss
Take one step and you fall
Forever
Never to return - no
Slipping into the darkness
Fill your void with nothing
Life deranged
Through your mind you're falling
Staring into the abyss
Just forget that you're sick
Just forget that you're dead
Your world has left you now you can't find your way
You're plunging faster
Forgotten eternity
Of hate and regressions
Finally you hit the ground
Finally you obtain what you never found
Peering up the black slopes
Covered in flesh and blood
Human rage, souls deranged
Wanting out of this hell there's no way out
Look up to see the light
Up to see the might
You fell into night

Fall - on the brink of death
Fall down with the rest
Force you to confess
Stand - up to face the truth
Lost within your youth
Nothing to refute
Run - dive into your grave
The whole world has caved
Into what you made
Just forget that you're dead
Just forget where you're lead
Your world has left you now you become my prey
Your - my possession
Forgotten eternities
Of hate and regression
Finally you hit the ground
Finally I obtain what - you never found
Clawing up the thorned slopes
Covered with flesh and blood
Human rage, souls obtained
Wanting out of this hell - screaming skywards

Lots of tool songs....

I never thought of Limelight as a song about OBE's or Astral Projection. My interpretation is basic dream of being on top, known in the world, and having it all, but regreting it. - ohh well.

Anyways, another song to add

Solex - Close to the edge

Up close to the edge
I wanna fall all the way down

Up close to the edge
Open my eyes
Walk straight ahead
I wanna fall
All the way down
I'm gonna run
When I hit the ground

Do you feel for me what I feel for you
Now you're turning on this electricity
Running through my veins, pulse begins to race
Come and satisy my curiosity
Keep imagining what it would be like
Got the power to make this reality
You're so close to me, almost taste your lips
Flying high, can't you feel its intensity

Only one way to go when you're on the outside looking in
Tell me what I need know
Don't recognise my own reflection when I'm in this state of mind

Up close to the edge
Open my eyes
Walk straight ahead
I wanna fall
All the way down
I'm gonna run
When I hit the ground

You're taking me close to the edge
Open my eyes walk straight ahead
I wanna fall all the way down
I'm gonna run when I hit the ground

I'm close to the edge....
I wanna fall all the way down....
I'im close to the edge.....
I wanna fall all the way down....

Are you reading me like im reading you
Are we transmitting on a new frequency
Hear it loud and clear
Message understood
Chain reaction coz we've got a chemistry
Now I'm standing here with my world below
Body's shaking is this how it's meant to be?
But I'm not afraid coz I'm not alone
Hear you breathing I feel you inside of me

Someone mentioned that lots of Tool songs fit this topic, which I agree with as well (they actually got me interested in all this stuff)...

-the climax in lateralus always makes me think of leaving my body (see below)

With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

Spiral out. Keep going, going...

anyways there are more, so many Tool songs seem to have a metaphysical side...

I own a lot of Orb stuff.  I particularly like the track called "earth (gaia)".

I like their kind of experimental music - landscapey and unusual (you might even say "quirky"!)  :-D

'Dweller on the Threshold' by Van Morrison. In fact, from the title of his album Astral Weeks, and some of the themes running through his songs, I think he is (or was in his younger days) very much into all things to do with AP.

My favourite AP song is 'And She Was' by Talking Heads. The lyrics are so obviously about OBE that it makes me laugh that people I know who really like the song, don't see what it's about!!

And She Was

And she was lying in the grass
And she could hear the highway breathing
And she could see a nearby factory
She's making sure she is not dreaming
See the lights of a neighbor's house
Now she's starting to rise
Take a minute to concentrate
And she opens up her eyes

The world was moving she was right there with it and she was
The world was moving she was floating above it and she was
and she was

And she was drifting through the backyard
And she was taking off her dress
And she was moving very slowly
Rising up above the earth
Moving into the universe
And she's drifting this way and that
Not touching the ground at all
And she's up above the yard

The world was moving she was right there with it and she was
(Hey, hey)
The world was moving she was floating above it and she was

Hey, hey, hey

She was proud about it... no doubt about it
She isn't sure about what she's done
No time to think about what to tell him
No time to think about what she's done
And she was

Hey hey, hey hey, hey!

And she was looking at herself
And things were looking like a movie
She had a pleasant elevation
She's moving out in all directions
Oh, oh oh

Hey hey hey (repeated..)

The world was moving she was right there with it and she was
Hey, woo hoo
The world was moving she was floating above it and she was
Hey, hey

Joining the world of missing persons and she was
Missing enough to feel all right and she was

Dream Weaver
~ Gary Wright
I've just closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the dream weaver train
Driver take away my worries of today
And leave tomorrow behind

(chorus)
Ooh dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
Ooh dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light
Fly me high through the starry skies
Maybe to an astral plane
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today's pain

(chorus)

Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
And meet me on the other side

Radiohead - Pyramid Song

I jumped in the river and what did I see?
Black-eyed angels swam with me
A moon full of stars and astral cars
All the things I used to see
All my lovers were there with me
All my past and futures
And we all went to heaven in a little row boat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

I jumped into the river
Black-eyed angels swam with me
A moon full of stars and astral cars
And all the things I used to see
All my lovers were there with me
All my past and futures
And we all went to heaven in a little row boat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

Someone told me that "Silly Boy Blue" by David Bowie was about astral projection.

A verse to probably confirm that...

You wish and wish, and wish again
You've tried so hard to fly
You'll never leave your body now
You've got to wait to die
