Title: OOBE Documentary...
Post by: Adrian on March 23, 2002, 14:13:34
Greetings Daniel!

I am not sure an OBE film is a good idea at all, but a documentary would be excellent.

The problem with a film (or movie as you say in the States ), is that, as I think you implied, the films financiers, directors, publishers etc., would want to turn it into a money circus for maximum financial return - call me a cynic if you like

OBE, and indeed all Spiritual matters are much too important to be sensationalised and cheapened in that way, and could have all sorts of side-effects I do not care to contemplate. These things always have been, and always should, be for the true seeker to seek out and discover of their own accord. Even Harry Potter hasn't put over the right sort of image it seems - not that I have seen it, because I have not, and do not intend to

But - Robert's Art Bell interview was wholly exceptional, and struck all the right notes with all sorts of different people. It conveyed understanding and the seriousness of these matters, together with the excellent work that Robert, and people like Romero, who is engaged in this frightening demonic exorcism right now, do, unselfishly for the benefit of mankind, and straight from the heart. I think a series of documentaries involving Robert, and perhaps people like the Monroe Institute would be an excellent idea. NDE is a topic close to my own heart, as I had one myself last July! It would be very interesting to demonstrate how closely related OBE and NDE are for example, and might help people who have lost loved ones recently.

Best regards,

Adrian.

i think an OBE documentary could be succesful if you had channels like Discovery Channel sponsoring it or something.

Or look for documentary makers for low budget. There are funds I think in the USA. (there goes Jeri Ryan lol )

Anyway, if I look at the forums here and the amount of replies..I think there is an audience for such a documentary.

Just take a look around....A very well filmed documentary would bring many answers to many questions...

Regards,

Manfred

I would just like to echo what Adrian said in his post...a documentary with individuals like Mr. Bruce, representatives from the Monroe institute, doctors, etc. would truly make for a simple yet profound film.

I agree with Manfred...the fact that on this one, relatively "small" website, there are thousands of visitors and X amount of members, all of which are interested in the topic for one reason or another.

...and yes, the Art Bell show was a great door of opportunity for Mr. Bruce, but at the same time I think the audience for a film would be evern greater.

If I were financially independent, I mean REALLY "independent", I would love to fund a film of this genre...and I would try to get a very well respected and objectively minded director to undertake it.

Lastly I just wanted to add that because I have many close friends as well as my finace, all of which are involved in one way or another with health care, that NDE's, OBE's, and "visions" in general occur on an almost daily basis within hospitals accross the world.  I recommend "Closer to the Light" by Dr. Melvin L. Morse- this book basically reviews many individual NDE's and then attempts to make the point that doctors and nurses, and all of us, need to wake up and face the truth about these "unexplained" phenomena...

I think individuals such as Morse, Bruce, Monroe...all of which are credible, intelligent and articulate...would make for an excellent "framework" for a documentary style film...then fill in the gaps with testimonies, individual experiences, and historical/religous viewpoints (show the connection of our modern thinking with these things, but of course keep it objective.)

I noticed it too...one of us should research the origins (etomology?) of the name.

Anyway, what do you all think about the documentary idea?  (I don't want it to die!!)

I think it is a fabulous idea to make a documentary.

What do we do about the questions? Where will we get our resources from ?

I hate to bring start a post so similar to the "movie" topic, but I feel that after having read the responses, the majority of those who responded to DJMM's post seem to be going in a different direction than myself and a few others.  I want to take this idea to another level...

I brought up the "documentary idea" back on page 2 under DJ MidgetMan's original "movie" post (BTW- great post!) and I stand by it... although it would be possible to make a "Hollywood" style film with OBE as the central theme, it would be nearly impossible to have it be successul in the box office and remain intact as a "true" depiction of the phenomena itself.

Many doctors and psychologists believe AND have done extensive studies on OBE and especially NDE (Moody, etc.)  To interview professionals (ie. doctors, nurses, pshychologists), authors, people who have experienced NDE's (especially children) and have "come back", and those like US here in the forums, would make for a wonderful, informative and ground breaking documentary.

Of course the general public probably wouldn't see it because people generally don't like documentaries, but there are those who would see it...and they would be the ones ready to accept the evidence and begin moving towards the "larger reality" that these phenomena represent.  It could be shown on PBS, Discovery, etc. and also made available for purchase in stores and on the net.

The fact is, what people see in "Hollywood" films always remains "Hollywood" in their minds...do we believe that Dinasours live on islands off Costa Rica?  There is something to be said for films like E.T. and Star Wars, for they are not only entertaining, but cause one to think about other realities and the possibility of life on other planets, but something like OBE would come out really unrealistic---imagine a John Woo OBE film
