Title: Out of Body Experiences during tense excersise.
Post by: Boom on March 06, 2014, 11:03:57
So a friend of mine who used to swim professionally told me something very interesting the other day.

She said that when in a swimming race, sometimes she'd get sensations of going out of body. She said she was focussed on the race and could sort of see herself from up above as if she was floating on top of her body.   Interestingly she added that during these times, she never really felt that tired during the race, and never felt her muscles burning. She was just focussing on the technique, and she wasn't really feeling anything.  When this happened, she recorded her best times.   She felt tired after the race, but not during.

I found this really interesting, because all the methods we hear about are about fully relaxing your body, meditation etc.  Yet here we have the complete opposite end of the spectrum where someone is stressing their body to the maximum, but being so focussed on the race that they have had an OBE during it, and not only that, by being focussed away form the body they have managed to surpass / block the feelings of being tired and muscle burnings and performed better!

I'm curious if anyone else has ever had OBE sensations during physical exercise?

This makes perfect sense to me. There is a couple of words that are known to serious practitioners in sports. It's that they were "in the zone".

That basically means that their focus was 110 % on their current activity. Which in a way is the same as losing your NP focus.  :-)

Actually, I was just reading a book about rowing...and the author
said that she uses a mantra sometimes as she rows, and that Native
cultures were known to use mantras to get themselves out of body during
extreme physical or mental stresses.
Wonder if your friend is using a mantra as she swims ?

Native Americans and tribal cultures all over the world dance and sing chants as a form of meditation and report to have what we would consider OOBE so it makes sense to me as well.

Very true AZ!

Their Shaman actually project/shift while doing ritual dancing. The same thing goes with Voodoo ceremonies. Dancing is a very powerful medium. But it's the beat that is actually doing alot of the work. The same thing can be found in Binaural Beats and Isochronic Tones.

Although dancing would be more fun then just lying down with a pair of Headphones on!

Like I say half of the fun is in getting there!  :-)
