I'm going to try and fast. Does anyone recommend a specific length of time to fast for? is it too short just say 1 or 2 days without food and drink or does it have to in general be at least 3 days? or 4? or more or what? pls someone give me an idea. TY.

I dont really think this will help your body achieve an OBE but I could  be wrong *shrug*....
I wandered slowly there
I saw a field where a thousand corpses lie
Angels sang the hymn of the end
About monsters which they fought
Over our world

here is a general fasting schedule for a beginner due to health safety.  the key to developing discipline is by taking it gradually.  if you feel that a particular week's practice is too difficult for you, then simply repeat the practice of the previous lighter week.  you may even extend this 12 week schedule to 24 to 48 weeks if you like, repeating each week for 2 to 4 times before advancing to the next week.

if you feel excessively ill (with sore throat, headache, earache, stomach cramping, dizziness, etc.), then cease the fast, and give yourself at least 3 or 4 days to restore your body before resuming again with a lighter session.  and most importantly, first consult a doctor if you have any medical conditions, insofar as fasting may amplify any medical conditions.  it's much like beginning an exercise program.  it's only healthy if you do it properly, and if you go too hard too quickly, then it will feel too strenuous (because the body hasn't yet adapted).

week 1: fast for 1 day, skipping 1 meal but eating 2 meals

week 2: fast for 1 day, skipping 2 meals but eating 1 meal

week 3: fast for 1 day, skipping 3 meals

week 4: fast for 2 days, skipping 4 meals but eating 2 meals

week 5: fast for 2 days, skipping 5 meals but eating 1 meal

week 6: fast for 2 days, skipping 6 meals

week 7: fast for 3 days, skipping 7 meals but eating 2 meals

week 8: fast for 3 days, skipping 8 meals but eating 1 meal

week 9: fast for 3 days, skipping 9 meals

week 10: fast for 4 days, skipping 10 meals but eating 2 meals

week 11: fast for 4 days, skipping 11 meals but eating 1 meal

week 12: fast for 4 days, skipping 12 meals

again, if any week is too strenuous, then simply repeat the previous week 2 or 3 times before advancing.  it's okay to extend this out to 36 or 48 weeks if needed.

Astral Traveler and I have had a few discussions about this.  I think it might be a good way for someone to have an OBE, but if you are not use to it, to not jump in.  Research methods and effects first so you know what to expect.

I would try sleep deprivation before fasting.

most definitely.  it's not something to be taken lightly, and it requires a vast amount of discipline and knowledge to successfully perform.  much like if someone wants to become a star marathoner, weightlifter or gymnast.

that's another good method if approached healthily.

It all comes down to knowledge and practice.  The more you know, the more prepared you will be.  The more you practice, the better you will be when the times comes.

Example:  If you want to skydive.  Most people wouldnt just grab a shoot and go jump out of a plane.  Even if you jump tandem, they practice and go through everything with you first.

I am trying to keep an open mind with different techniques.  But I know that I shouldnt just jump in and start trying something without knowing what it does and how it might effect me in the future.

yes, that's very wise and constitutes sound practical advice for everyone.  rushing forward too quickly or in the absence of knowledge can cause self-injury.

I already am sleep deprived so that could be a means for my projecting so often. however i would never negate food in my daily life to project on a more regular basis...unless i was unemployed and didnt have to worry about bills and school.

yes, it takes a great deal of effort.

One of the important factors in fasting is to spend some time preparing to be able to fast safely, then try starting with one day on the weekend, when you can rest and don't have to tend to obligations or responsibilities.

We've seen a few discussions that fail to address the importance of preparation. For example, one person was saying that he would eat a fast-food hamburger, then go on a fast, and no one addressed that as being an adverse issue.

I used to follow the old school method of preparing to fast by maintaining a strict vegan diet and having a good supply of fresh fruit, wholewheat toast, and light vegetables, (to avoid heavy starch potatoes).

During the fast, a popular method is to drink water with fresh lemon slice, a bit of 100% maple syrup, and a pinch of cyan pepper.

The method of breaking the fast is critical, and recommend ending the fast with grape juice, fresh grapes, then clear veg broth. After the energy returns, then have more solid food.

I don't fast anymore because I need to keep my energy up for kite surfing, but still maintain a light diet, with soy and dairy products for protein.

The last time I fasted was on a survival training course and when sleeping had the most intense hypnagogic visions, but no luck projecting for me at that time.

As I said, this is the old school method of preparation, and recommend researching current info on fasting.
