Unless you've had the little bit of tissue cut under your tongue it's physically impossible to swallow your tongue.
When you relax completely it may block the airway briefly which will result in either snoring or a short complete block but it won't kill you.

seriously though, if you just tilt your head back some more when you are lying down, your problem should go away. it helps open up your breathing passage.
"Swallowed his tounge" is the idiotic way of saying someone is choking, that is all. I doubt anyone has "swallowed" their tounge and died.
Its physically impossible for it to happen from my knowledge and unless you have had the flesh under your tounge clipped to make it longer (ala member of kiss) then you have nothing to worry about.
I built a weird habit of licking my toncils somehow, so if someone is going to "choke on their tounge" its going to be me the first to do it [:P]

If you read that it's possible, it might be possible, but I don't think you would stay there without acting if it starts to happen: we still are in an alive state when we are in transe! So conservasion reflexes must still exist. I'd rather say you swallow your tongue while laughing like mad, while doing sport, or while being nervously much chocked... but while traveling out of body, it seems we should before all be relaxed, which I think, gets the danger to null.
if you, like me, practice obe's on your back, is it possible that you could swallow your tongue during deep trance?-i saw this written somwhere and now i practice with my head slightly tilted which makes things a lil more difficult-although i must say the only success ive had is sitting upright which was odd for me.
