Lisa,

I'm assuming from your question that you mean in order to do a conscious obe? We all have periods of catelepsy or sleep paralysis during our sleep.

The books on astral projection such as Astral Dynamics by Robert Bruce, and The Projection of the Astral Body by Sylvan Muldoon & Hereward Carrington are a good start for you. They cover the general pre-obe steps to take which then, hopefully, will lead to the pre-obe sensations such as sleep paralysis.

That is actually a REALLY good question Lisa.
Sleep paralysis accounts for the body asleep part of the Mind-awake, body-asleep equation needed to induce a projection. If you stop to think about that for a few momnets it should be obvious that body-asleep is the harder part of the equation. Most people can stay relatively awake but find it much more difficult to sufficiently calm/quiet the body.
To answwer your question though - Currently I do not know of any way to directly induce sleep paralysis (SP). Oh do I wish that I could induce SP.[:D][:D][:D] That would be Great. With the physical body properly subdued it would be expedientally easier to induce an out of body experience.
So if anyone knows anything about inducing sleep paralysis then please come forward and respond!!!It could be a Big breakthrough for a Lot of people.

Why would anyone want sp? I can still remember the fear that I felt when much younger. Terror of the night[:O]. I used to make a point to sleep before midnight.

I never found any method to induce sleep paralysis, except perhaps by disturbing the sleep pattern in a major way (You're very tired and need sleep, you decide to lay down to rest but make it a point not to sleep as you have something important to do, say in the next 30 minutes).

However, the kind of paralysis you want, I suppose is a little bit different. There is an exercise from Muldoon called "inducing incapacity" which includes hearing your heart beats in any part of your body and then slowing them to such an extent. I'm not sure it is in which book. Maybe Nick can help you with this.(Anyhow, if you manage to slow down your sleeping to suh an extent, you're bound to notice the paralysis state coming to you. And since you know what it is now, you won't get scared like I used to be.

Lisa

Hi,
Is there a way to provoke sleep paralysis?
Thank you for your responses.
