Synergy

I was just wondering how many people out there have had spontaneous OBEs throughout their life?  The spontaneous ones are what sparked my interest in being able to induce them by will. But I can not imagine how difficult it must be for someone who has never had a spontaneous one to base their experiences on, and try to achieve the out-of-body state.  I knew before I tried to induce them what they were like - what pre-OBE phenomenon happen, and exactly what sleep paralysis was like, and the rushing sounds, and the vibrations... I had all of it before I ever tried to induce it on my own.  I feel so lucky to have been given this gift!  I actually believe we ALL have it... but for some reason I was just 'aware' during them.

How many of you also have had spontaneous (fully conscious) OBEs, prior to trying to induce them on your own?  Why do you think some people have spontaneous OBEs while others do not... or at least they do not remember?  What influences or conditions must be met for someone to have a spontaneous OBE?  If we could just figure that out!

Well... All my conscious OBEs so far have been spontaneous (happened when I went to bed normally), but they also all occured after I started attempting to project consciously...

There's two factors I believe can be exploited in order to induce spontaneous OBEs...

The first one is memory... In dreams, we are not bent on remembering everything that happens, we rarely have this "I must remember this for later" mentality which we have in waking life. When we force ourselves to remember through auto-suggestion and the like, we trigger the memory reflex. That's one important aspect -- if you don't remember it, it never happened.

The other one is awareness or lucidity. We are trained to go completely unconscious when we go to sleep... Through personal experience and other sources (one of which is Robert Monroe himself), I've concluded that sleeping with disturbances that force you to go in and out of sleep has some kind of effect on your ability to become conscious while unfocused from the physical.

I am still experimenting at the moment, but I believe the process of learning how to control one's awareness can be sped up considerably using a few "tricks." Pretty confident I could turn an average joe into a skilled lucid dreamer/astral projector in a couple of weeks!

Job

I recall having a at least one or two spontaneous experiences when I was a child. I think that some people have the experiences because they are interested in psyhic phenomena. I personally used to be interested in "magic" when I was a child, or generally things that were different from everyday existence.

I don't know how to bring about such an experience, but I know how to bring about the separation through the use of 'techniques'.

The first spontaneous OBE that I recall was when I was 9, I'd had other strange occurances prior to that like flying dreams and when I was 7 my sister and I had a shared dream.

I've had spontaneous OBE's my whole life, it's only recently (in the last few years) that I've become aware that I can induce them.
