Im kinda new to the whole thing. Only recently did I stumble upon this type of thing. After reading a bunch and posting on my boards, I have a couple questions. Any help apprecaited.

1. People talk about if you dont know yourself or I guess are not ready for it, if you go in you may never come back, someone might take your body or kill you, and things along these lines. Anyone have any information on this type of thing?

2. Is it dangerous? Fairly simple question.

Again, any help appreciated. Thanks.

This is in regard to your subconscious.  The astral environment is instantly created, and your fears will also populate it-So if you don't know yourself, you may create some realities that are too much for you to handle emotionally and some people are affected negatively.

This idea comes from the old belief that your spirit/soul leaves your body 'empty' so your life can exit it or something else can occupy it.  The current thinking, based on more observation on things like the split/mind effect, is that you do not completely exit your body, but a part of you does, an energetic double, or that you don't leave it at all, you change your focus from the body to the  astral dimension, so there is no reason to fear this type of thing.  Many of us do it and that's never happened.
Is it dangerous? Not physically.  Mentally, I don't know.

Sounds like lies to me, AP'ing and the likes is absolutely harmless. It might be a little scary but this is because you are experiencing new things not being harmed/attacked in away, nothing can hurt you.

Quote2. Is it dangerous? Fairly simple question

No.

Thanks for your answers guys. Would love to hear more if anyone has anything else for a new person giving it a go.

I got another question:

Do I need to practice meditation, energy techniques, etc? Or is it possible to OBE without having to star in either of those places? Im sure if someone does have experience in controlling energy and meditating it would be easy to obtain and OBE, but since I dont, I was wondering if its worht just trying right away. Or start by learning to meditate.

kiwibonga

Start by learning dream recall. Do affirmations during the day, tell yourself to remember your dreams. Keep a pen and paper near your bed to make sure you can write the dream as soon as you wake up. This is very important for the mind.

Once you have the memory part down, you can start trying techniques...

I recommend you read as much as you can about OBEs and the techniques to use when you start out.

http://www.robertpeterson.org/obebook.html is a good, free online book which has just about everything you need to know to get started.

Thanks a ton. I really want to start this.

Last question:

After trying a bunch of times to relax the body I REALLY have a hard time relaxing my eyelids, its almost like they need to be taped down. Any suggestions?

kiwibonga

In order to project, try to put yourself in a position where you could fall asleep any minute. If you feel anything unpleasant (eyes twitching, itch, etc...), just take care of it. Don't worry about breaking your concentration, if anything bothers you, fix it and start over, just like you would if trying to fall asleep.

Eyes not closing fully means you're too awake -- take a 30 minute nap before your attempt and see if that fixes the problem.

There are quite a few posts on this board related to tension in the eyes. The eyelid actually requires a muscle contraction in order for it to shut, so it may be impossible to entirely relax that area. Try to get used to it.

It is possible and many of us do it spontaneously, but when you have a  practice routine it increases the frequency of OBs and it helps you control them better.
There are many components to OB practice:
Recall improvement (as kiwibonga said)-helps with lucidity
energy work- helps with frequency and length of the experience
relaxation, trance work (meditation, as kiwi said)- helps you to get to the body asleep/mind awake
exit techniques-what to do when you're in trance (self explanatory)
journaling/affirmations/self-hypnosis- Keeps you in the groove once you've gone there.

As for the eyelids- ignore it and it will stop.  I had problems with my eyelids while doing energy work and started doing it (with the lights off) with my eyes open.  Pretty soon they shut by themselves and no more problems.

komplexvn

Hmm, I think I'll try lights off with my eyes open. Thanks

Try to gaze on something without moving your head or blinking for a couple of minutes or just slowly open and close your eyes with breathing. This will fix eye problems.

For inner silence, be aware of the entire visual field especially its periphery. You won't have problems with eyes at all though if you are busy in maintaining the proper way to focus within your mind.
