Let me start by saying, I've never astral projected before.
I studied AP before but decided against it.
So last night, I was dreaming about chatting with a friend on Instant Messenger.
Suddenly I float out of my body and I'm in what appears to be my brothers room (don't know if it really was his room, because the bed was positioned differently and it was smaller).
Laying there is a girl I know the friend I was chatting with in my dream, we're friends but I'm not in love with her.
I float over and lay down next to her on the bed, I put my arm over her belly as I lay face down but with my head facing towards her.
I see her face, and I feel love, and empathy for her (which I normally don't) and I feel loved.
Suddenly everything goes blurry and I jolt back into my body, I wake up sweaty, shaking and shocked from the sudden jolt.
My question is did I switch from dream state and project out of my body? And if so, do you think she must have projected while dreaming? (she seemed to still be sleeping on the bed)
Also, If I project and stay on the physical plane, would I be able to travel across the country in my astral body and see someone? (I know I won't be able to speak to them and they won't be able to see me)

I think you may have exited from your dream body to your astral body and did travel to this person, but she might not have been 'exactly' the actual friend of your brothers'- not sure how you can verify if he was with her at the time. I tend to think that she was someone else, a self aspect or a guide.... something like that. Maybe there's a lesson in there, not sure.

Everyone projects when they sleep, even if they don't "go" anywhere. If you make projecting a habit you'll soon see people sleeping when you're out.
QuoteAlso, If I project and stay on the physical plane, would I be able to travel across the country in my astral body and see someone? (I know I won't be able to speak to them and they won't be able to see me)
If you do an RTZ projection, you can travel, but I don't know how far. If you go astral you won't see the physical, you'll see a representation of it, but in my experience astral projections do connect you to the other person, they just may not be aware of them.
Hallo Aaron
Your experience highlights the uncertainty between dreaming and being out of body (OBE). As you probably know there is a lot of disagreement about whether lucid dreaming (and dreaming in general) is the same as having an OBE.
Many people believe that a lucid dream and an OBE are the same. Some might take your experience to support that argument. Since you are unsure over whether the experience was a dream or an OBE might seem to strengthen that idea.
However, I strongly believe that a lucid dream (or any dream) is fundamentally different than an OBE or an AP (astral projection).
Before going into that any further let me answer your questions.
You asked
QuoteMy question is did I switch from dream state and project out of my body? And if so, do you think she must have projected while dreaming? (she seemed to still be sleeping on the bed)
I believe that, Yes, you did project out of body. Although apparently you were not completely conscious of being out of body. From personal experience I have NEVER had a dream that began with me floating (or rolling) out of my physical body. As to your IM chat friend being out of body too. Yes that is distinctly possible. Yet she could also have been a construct of your own mental process, meaning she may have been only a thought elemental.
Your second question
QuoteAlso, If I project and stay on the physical plane, would I be able to travel across the country in my astral body and see someone? (I know I won't be able to speak to them and they won't be able to see me)
Yes, absolutely. This has been done and documented by astral travelers hundreds of times. There are Many reports of people out of body visiting family or friends and correctly observing what those (physical) people were doing while they were hundreds or thousands of miles away at the time.
Now let me quickly outline the difference between a dream and an OBE.
A dream happens either inside a person's head/brain or takes place in a non-physical location known to some as the dream plane. Most of what happens in a dream (or lucid dream) is a creation of the dreamer's thought processes.
An OBE is an event where the consciousness (soul/spirit/astral body/etc) leaves the confines of the physical body. An OBE can take place on the physical plane or it can happen in any of the non-physical locations that are variously known as the astral plane, ethereal plane, focus areas or Belief System Territories.
Some could argue that the Dream plane and the Astral plane are the same non-physical location making the experience of going out of body (OBE) the same as dreaming or lucid dreaming. It has been my experience, however, that there IS a difference between an astral plane and a dream plane. This difference, or lack there-of, seems to be a never ending point of debate and I won't go into detail here. Anyways my post has been too overlong already and I wish to thank you for bearing with me.
Hope this helps, regards 8-)
