Title: struggling
Post by: gamehead on March 09, 2011, 13:25:12
hey guys, I'm new to the boards but i've been lurking on here for a bout a month. I have a question about sequence. First, I would like to explain my situation that i am struggling with- When i get to the vibrating part i start hearing things, not buzzing but more like noises around me like someone is trying to mess with me? and this startles me a little bit and knocks me out of focus. I then usually ignore it and continue to focus on my breathing. after regaining my little trance state, i imagine myself climbing out... i feel like its working but then as time passes by (maybe 3-5 minutes) i dont feel anything anymore.

any suggestions?

The noises are normal, they are a form of hypnagogia, and when you say you imagine yourself climbing out, what do you mean?

The so called astral noises can be what Monroe called the M-Band (I think M is for Mind), which is the garbled noise of various human thoughts around the Earth and your surroundings. Theory says that when you shift into further Focus levels, the noise will go away.

Thanks for your reply guys. As for what do I imagine- I imagine myself climbing up a rope... like i dont see a solid image but i just imagine it like imagining a cat when someone says "CAT"

The rope technique is not supposed to be an 'imagine' technique.  More like a recreation of the event in a tactile way.  Like, go climb a rope (a real one).  If you climbed one with your eyes closed, how would it feel?  You'd feel the weight of your body moving up, you'd feel the strain of your muscles as you hoisted yourself up, you'd feel the rope tighten and strain your skin as you heaved up.  This feeling of movement, of your point of balance going up, the movement with your arms, hands, whole body, that's what you want to recreate.  Not imagine, not visualize, but feel.  Like a very vivid memory.

The rope is a difficult technique as it tends to bring your attention back into the body. You see, you must imagine using your body to climb, so you tend to focus on the arms and legs of actual physical body, which brings you back into the physical.

I'd advise try something more abstract which does not involve the use of muscles. E.g. imagine yourself as a point consciousness simply floating upwards, or try to recreate the feeling when you are on a swing and you close your eyes, that feeling. Or visualize how the room would have looked from a ceiling perspective.

About the noises, forget them, watch passively when they are there, they will pass. Its all random firings of neurons of which your brain in trying to make sense of. (This may not be true completely, but its the right belief to have at this point and its the case most of the times). If you assign a negative significance to noises, they will always creep you out and halt your progress. They are harmless anyway. It is counter productive to condition yourself negatively , take the noises as fun.

AHHHHH!! so, i think i've finally learned to roll out of my bed HAHA. what an amazing feeling. my vision was blurry and after realizing i was out of my bed (and out of my body) everything else was blank. Indirect technique ftw!
