Hi,
Welcome to the pulse.
Try reading The Projection of the Astral Body by Sylvan Muldoon and Hereward Carrington.
Also search for some meditation techniques.
This will be a good starter.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

I would suggest coming at it from a different angle.  Try researching phasing or shamanic journeying or active imagination.  These are all essentially the same thing but they are taught from different paradigms.  Phasing is a modern AP technique that is taught in the "new age" movement (and i use the word new age VERY loosely), Shamanic Journeying is a technique that obviously is used by shamans and witches, it is the pagan tradition's route of soul travel.  You might not see it called shamanic journeying, they may call it AP or something else, but you will find these techniques in practical witchcraft, shamanic or other pagan texts (like books on practical magick and such).  Active Imagination is a technique/term coined by Carl Jung.  So if you are more "scientifically inclined", then you might prefer this technique.  I believe Xanth may have stickied some links to some Active Imagination links that I found a while back somewhere around here.  Anyway, this is a technique that Jung used to bring the "unconscious" levels of the self to the surface and interact with them for the purpose of psychological healing.  but the method is still essentially phasing/shamanic journeying.

all of these techniques are based more on imagination and being able to "put yourself into another place" and keep your attention focused there for a period of time, which should induce "separation" (though you won't experience traditional separation necessarily.)

hope that helps.
be awesome.

What helped me the most when setting out to project was the pdf of all of Frank's posts. That is file pure gold.

Cheers,

Here is what I did. Pick a time when you have the morning free and clear.  The best time is right after you wake up so that you don't fall asleep. Use the bathroom first because you will end up in the bathroom during your first try and wonder why your bladder still feels full. LOL. While you are lying in bed  relax your body and pick an object in the house. It should be something that holds some meaning for you.  Picture it in your mind.  Visualize yourself getting  up and walking to the object. Visualize touching the object.  Concentrate. Breathe. If you succeed you will feel as if you are in a virtual reality game. You will be aware of your body in the bed and aware of your astral body. It won't feel like a dream. Experiment. Give your spirit substance. Hold your hand up in front of your eyes. Flex your hand and move your fingers. Now move around the room. Touch things that are in front of you. Touch the wall. Touch the things in the room. If you have a cat, don't panic if it seems like it recognizes you. Your cat will see you! They are strange like that. Don't be dismayed if the experience only lasts for a few minutes. You will get better at it. Once you succeed you can walk outside and project yourself to different places- to higher realms.

I can't be too tired and I must think about it throughout the day before. I tell myself I'm going to project and I think about what my goal will be once I'm in the astral. Have you tried doing this from your couch? We are trained to go into unconscious sleep in our beds which can thwart any attempts to AP. My husband's snoring also makes it hard for me to focus so moving to the couch is a must for me if I want to be sure I am successful. You can try asking for a guide to help you out of your body while you are meditating. Rope method didnt work for me but focusing my mind on one object in my house does seem to work. I tell myself that I will stay awake while my body sleeps. I usually drift off but when I feel floaty or vibrations, it's a trigger for me to become aware again and try to roll out. Reading other people's experiences has helped me too.

All of these techniques posted here are great in aiding you to the Astral. Try experimenting, I began my Consciously Aware Astral traveling in February of 2011. I bombarded my mind with techniques from all different sources, at one time I had 3 PDF's by 3 different authors on my computer and I was reading bits and pieces of all of them every night before I attempted to project. It did get confusing for a while, but really helped me to generate my entire focus on my chosen goal. After experimenting for months I finally found what I was comfortable with and have never looked back since. Keep a log of your experiences though, it is important. You can go back and see what worked and what didn't.
Good Luck and Safe Travels  :-)
