Hey every one, quick question

Do you ever try to talk to anyone about astral projection who don't know what it is?  I would really like to tell people about oobe because the fact that we are able to literally project our consciousness into other planes of existence is...epic?divine?amazing?  I don't really know what simple adjective could describe the experience.  Why don't more people know about this?  Is it because we've grown so disgustingly out of touch with our roots?

let me know what you all think,

I talk about Lucid Dreaming with some friends and it don't seems like they are ready to know about AP. Most of my friends are pure atheists too.

However, I've told many of my internet-friends about it but most of them are also atheists and don't really believe in it.

I find that subjects such as "Lucid Dreaming" are much easier to talk about with others because a lot of people have experienced them.

Now... go on to talk about "and yeah... I also talk to people in other dimensions" and all of a sudden they think you're nuts.  :)

Places like the Astral Pulse are great for talking about this kind of thing... in even a small way it's some place we can come to share our experiences and feelings.  You don't get that kind of thing out in the real world.

Time for some new friends!

Talking about it is complicated, because communication is a culturally bound thing, and if your culture is caught up in nutty ideas about spirits not existing, words tend to fail. In fact there are people like me who are very familiar with astral projection but have only projected a few times, so when we hear people talk about it, we can't feel what they're describing, but I'm more scientific than some people (who claim to be scientific only as a means to justify nonsense) so I listen to every bit of it.  You might consider things like whether or not your friends have the capacity to grasp new things.

I've only told my sister about this since she is open minded but other than that I just interact with members of this forum. I find most people are mostly preocupied with this side and they'll think I'm a looney if I talk about astral projection.

Undertones

In regards to WADS's post, just wondering if anyone know, or knows of, an athiest becoming agnostic through the experience of an OOB - whether it was attained on purpose or purely by accident.

Farther

I've only told my fiance about it and she is very supportive (even though she can't do it herself). She likes me to tell her what I see and asked that I tell her anything new that I've seen. I guess I'm lucky she is cool with it. As for everybody else, I don't tell anyone. Not that I wouldn't but I don't feel like I must tell them either.

i think atheism and agnosticism are the same.

i don't see how anyone could be alive and not experience at least fleeting moments of unity.

i think diehard atheists are just people disgusted by the old religion and overwhelmed by the apparent brilliance of the new religion (science).

agnostic....that's a weird one.  you believe in something but you won't venture a guess as too what it is.....

WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!

no one truly KNOWS God.  That's the mystery.  That's the fun of it.

But, to answer your question, I'm sure some atheists have turned agnostic from an OBE experience.  I'm also sure some atheists have seen it as a side effect of the mind.
be awesome.

I was something like that. I was kinda atheist for a long time even though I've always been interested in supernatural things. I am one that believes everything i read (kinda) and I came across AP and thought "this is amazing!". 4 days later I had a spontaneous OBE that flipped my beliefs upside down. I considered myself agnostic for a long time but now i have no idea what I am :P

I agree that taking about lucid dreaming is OK while OBEs usually scare people.  Here in Japan there is a strong tradition of ghosts and folks are really freaked by them.  Anything that smacks of that will turn them off quick.  Bottom line is that if a person doesn't have any first hand experience with something this "far out", then you might as well be talking to a wall.  I tell my girlfriend about my experiences and she is accepting of them, but she really doesn't get what I'm talking about either. Her responses usually are, "but did that really happen or were you just imagining it?" or she simply says, "that is scary!"

My boss has done tv in Japan and told me the same thing.  He could do psychic tv there but he couldn't do psychic tv that had anything to do with ghosts.
be awesome.
