I'm glad to help if I can, also those charts are mainly based on my experiences only so if you have suggestions how to make them more accurate I would definitely like to hear about it.

Cube,
I'm a newb :)  My friend Wookie got me interested in Astral Projection and I have a question for you.  I've gotten to the point where doing my reality checks is hard because my hands and feet have gone numb.  They feel tingly like they are falling asleep.  I can't move my fingers or sometimes if I try hard I can move them some.  A few days ago I was relaxed, I couldn't move my hands or feet and then my vision kind of dimmed and I saw what looked like a tunnel that all sorts of different colored lights, the best way to describe it is if you watch Star Trek when the Enterprise jumps to Warp speed, thats what it looked like.  Do you have any advice for me?  Also when you do Project would there ever be a danger of your projection not being able to return to your physical body?  Also how fast do you move when you are projecting?  Would it be possible for me to go from Colorado to say California in one night or are there still movment laws that govern you?  Thank you for your help Cube.

It could be one of two things. It could be that you're cutting off circulation to parts of your physical body, if that's the case you should find a different position to lay in so that you get blood flow everywhere evenly. You can cause permanent damage if you cut off circulation for too long.

On the other hand, it could also be that you're getting to the beginning stages of sleep paralysis, in which case you're making good progress. It sounds like you're at the 'Heavy Feeling' on the chart, although when you say you're getting a tingly sensation that sounds more like poor circulation than paralysis.

then my vision kind of dimmed and I saw what looked like a tunnel that all sorts of different colored lights, the best way to describe it is if you watch Star Trek when the Enterprise jumps to Warp speed, thats what it looked like.

That sounds like you're on a roll. I've never had a tunnel type OBE but from what I've read it's related to a 3rd eye type of projection somehow. Robert Bruce writes about it, so does Stuart Wilde:

http://www.stuartwilde.com/morph/sw_morph_tube.htm
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&c2coff=1&q=site%3Astuartwilde.com+tube&btnG=Search

Usually the way it works for me is I get imagery which becomes progressively more and more vivid until I can either step into the imagery or I shift my focus back to my body and gravity-press myself out.

Here is a page I've started on that: http://www.tunedmind.com/out-of-body/chat-forum/viewTopic.jsp?t=watching-impressions&x=1256

I'm not done writing about how I actually use the images to exit the body but it's essentuially like how I describe above.

quote:
Also when you do Project would there ever be a danger of your projection not being able to return to your physical body?

I can't say there's zero risk but I bet you're taking a bigger risk leaving your house and crossing the street to do your everyday stuff than you are leaving your body to go exploring the universe.

Also how fast do you move when you are projecting? Would it be possible for me to go from Colorado to say California in one night or are there still movment laws that govern you?

You can teleport by willing yourself to be where ever you want, so speed isn't an issue. It's really a matter of having enough awareness of the place you want to go and doesn't have much to do with distance.

I'd like to know more about the specifics of how you're getting a tube type OBE, such as:

What time of day did you do it?

How sleepy were you?

What visualizations or conceptualizations did you use?

Passive Observer

Occasionally, when i'm relaxing, I "nod off" in my thoughts for a couple seconds, then regain awareness of myself in my bed, and i recall an image of an unknown place very well, as if i was just there.  What would this classify as?
Memory impressions? Vivid images?
...High and surrendering to gravity and the unknown.  Catch me, heal me.  Lift me back up to the sun...

Congratulation to your own forum, cube!

cube

That sounds like memory impressions, when you get to actual imagery you're seeing the images as they come. Once you get a memory impression hold the idea of it in your mind and wait for more. Doing that over and over will incrementally focus your mind into the area of consciousness that they come from. Eventually they'll become actual images, then become vivid, then become animated, then you can phase into them.

Cool, this chart will help me out a lot! Anyways, I'm also a newbie to OBE... and what I want to know it, how do you know when you are ready to leave the body? The farthest I got was a slight feeling that I was sinking and my hands, feet and from the shouldser to the thighs felt numb, but after that I didn't know when to... well project?

According to your chart thing, I've got as far as exiting but I haven't actually exited (due to fear). Cool chart.

Well, let's see...

When it happened consciously, I had a heavy feeling come over me, then I went for a lie down, wasn't sleepy, just very relaxed, then I got the imagery, some strange noise (sounded like very gentle mystical music), very vivid images, full paralysis and went very cold, then had heavy vibrations with a loud roaring noise. Of course, at this point I was scared to death and tried to move, eventually I snapped out of it. That was the first time. This was a few months ago if I recall correctly. I did think that the imagery was strange though, didn't make much sense at all.

There, that's the summary of what happened. It has happened a couple more times after that but I never did manage to get out. It was a spontaneous thing as well.

Yeah that sounds like you were close. It might help to keep better track of the meditations you do in a journal. I'm making an online one that people can use here:

http://www.saltcube.com/out-of-body/chat-forum/lucid-dream-journal.jsp

I'm setting it up so that people will be able to make a chart of their progress and see what works for them and what doesn't. I just went back through my old data and found that I have the best luck getting up a 5:30, staying up until 7:00, then using rhythm napping with the intervals set to 20, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and try to exit when the alarm goes off.

I'll be making the scripts to do the charts pretty soon so the more sooner you put data in the more you'll have and the clearer things will be.

Cheers for the tip. I currently don't mediatate but I'll take a look at your journal thing.

Hi cube: thats an exelent website with alot of helpful information on staying awake during hupnagogic imagery etc. Thanks.

When trying to project from fully awake I think I get the closist.
I get to a point where a vast 3d dark space seems to open up all around me. I noticed the 3d blackness on your chart corresponds to very relaxed, so I guess thats where I'm at.
I also get a massive drumming sensation in the chest, like my hearts going to jump out, its like its going 300 beats a minute or something. I understand this to be the heart chackra, do you have any idea if this useually occurs at a paricular point?

cube

You're starting to shift your focus from the physical to the astral if you get really clear heart chakra sensations like that, so you're probably into the 'nearly exited' spot.

You may be able to exit by focusing completely on your heart chakra, it would be the same type of exit as using Birm's triangle method except you're focused on your heart rather than a triangle.
