Have you tried to project while on your right side instead of on your back? The right nostril will likely close, but the left nostril will clear in a few minutes. On a related matter, I read that a timed breathing pattern when established can be allowed to continue effortlessly. This keeps you breathing even after you are concentrating elsewhere.

I personaly have no problems with my breathing through my nose while on my back.Saliva and drifting off to sleep are my biggest foes when trying to induce or condition.
I too do not have a recliner and have started using a heaping pile of pillows to prop my back up.It has helped some though I need a few more pillows.

Peace!

what position do you take to fall asleep? after you stop trying to project due to your breathing, what position do you take then? you obviosly have to get comfortable enough w/ your breathing to fall asleep. next time you do, pay close attention to your breathing. be careful though, i've found that the more i pay attention to something the less relaxed i am. i believe it's best to be right on the verge of sleep and just kind of aware of what's going on instead of focusing on it. gl. fred

Breathing through your mouth will probably not affect your ability to OOB if you are used to it. When your sinuses are clear it is a good idea to develop the habit of breathing through your nose.

I also have worse than normal allergies. Many years ago an allergist specialist told me that it is not healthy to be a (mouth breather). 1 causes tooth problems.  2 bi passes noses function as an airfilter. 3 If allergies persist tissue becomes inflamed and symptons tend to snowball.

If you have access, see an allergist specialist but try to stay off of drugs with side affects.

when symptoms flare up I use 2000 mg. of MSM a nutritional form of sulfer. It is available in health stores and is non toxic (removes foreign protiens from your body). I also use antihystamines ( suppresse hystamines in your body from reacting to foreign substance), available over the counter. A seemingly non adictive antihystamine is Chlorpheniramine Maleate.

WEIRDZLY!

Thanks for all the interesting and helpful ideas, everyone. I'm sure other people will benefit from this too. I'll update if something works really well for me.

All the best,

Mark

Try having your head tilted back a bit so that your tongue at least gets out of the airway.

Do you snore?  I think a lot of people who snore may have this problem.  I woudn't know though, because I sleep as quiet as a dead person.

I find my greatest problem is my throat drying out after around 30 minutes when lying on my back.

Lying on my side is pretty useless as well as I tend to just fall asleep.

I'm certainly interested in any suggestions...

Get some Beconase spray for allergies, works really well.  You might have to order it at your pharmacy, it's available over the counter here in the UK.

I have a coughing problem ( too many cigarettes).  The minute I lay flat on my back, I have to cough, clear my throat or swallow.  Just propping myself up with a few pillows stops all the breathing problems.

Hey all,

I can get drifty and start to lose track of my body fairly easily, but breathing problems always bring me back.

I have allergies and breathing through my nose is never entirely effortless, like breathing through one's mouth is.

Question (1) - Are there people out there who can breath as easily through their nose as their mouth while they're lying on their back?

I always feel like I have to keep a little awareness on my air passages for optimum airflow. As soon as I back off it gets harder to breath through my nose. And I don't like to breath through my mouth while attempting to project because it dries out in seconds. Anyway, keeping this awareness on my breath is holding me in body.

Ideas appreciated. I don't really have a reclining chair or anything.

I could add on to this, but I'll start with the above.

Thanks,

Mark
