hi all first post here, not sure if this is the right thread for this but here goes, my granddad has died recently Tuesday morning to be exact, i was just wondering about how long the recently deceased linger around in the real time zone or in the astral planes before moving to the higher planes and beyond into heaven.

I'm pretty much a newbie in terms of obe, i tried trance last night and achieved vibrations but even after telling myself over and over that i would remain calm no matter what i couldn't help getting excited and my mind wandered and pretty much ended the trance state, was cool to know that i could do it tho.

So what i really wanted to know if i take a lot of time this weekend practicing trance and maybe even project through sheer beginners luck would there be any way to maybe contact my grandfather and say a proper goodbye??

uhm...I am not really sure but I would say that spirits stay about 2 weeks before going. But that's just a random guess, because spirits can stay as much as they like here, if they don't want to go , they don't!   To contact him, it takes a certain clairvoiant abillity, perhaps you could ask someone around where you live who has this abillity and he/she could help you out.
I'm sorry about your grandfather :(

I am also sorry to hear about your grandad.

What is good news is that wherever your grandad is right now, he is not restricted to our time/space dimensions anymore, therefore if ever you call for him, he will be there.  This can happen through thought, dreaming, OBE, meditation.  If you place an intent to see him, he will come.

Now, on the flip side of the coin is YOU.  You have to know that you will be able to meet with him.  He may have already visited you, at your request, however you possibly have not seen him, because you don't expect to see him.

My Grandma died when I was 9 (I am now 36) and only in the last month or two have I ever seen her.  This is probably due to my changing beliefs.

I would suggest that you have a look at the Bruce Moen technique, which can be found on his website www.afterlife-knowledge.com  In my opinion, his is the most direct route to meeting up with Grandad.

Good luck!

We all find nonsenses to believe in; it's part of being alive.

I read somewhere that spirits such as your grandfather usually hang around in the astral planes or real time until their etheric energy runs out and they have no choice but to move on. (I think I read this in one of Robert Bruce's books, but I'm not sure) sometimes they can get stuck temporarily in mirrors so I'd suggest you cover all the mirrors around where you grandpa died, in his house, etc. I personally think you could contact him during astral projection, so next time you try to project, ask your higher self, spiritual guide, whatever, to have an OOBE. your wish may be granted.

may you grandfather rest in peace

He could 'hang around' anywhere between 2 seconds and forever.  Where he 'goes' from there depends on many many factors.  don't dwell on the issue, it's not relevant to what your intending.

Now to answer your original question.  You don't need to project to say your goodbyes.  Your grandfather will be there for you when you need him.  It's part of what being family means.  Simply focus your mind, and with honest Intent, tell your grandfather what you wish to say.  Speak from the heart (out loud helps you, instead of thinking it).  The 'feel' for responces.

Without getting esoteric about what your grandfather is now, part of him will be there for you as needed.   Don't expect a Hollywood ghost like responce, but you will get some type of responce based on what your capable of working with.
There is a physical limitation upon how much light a human body can sustain. Interestingly, there is no limit on how much light a human vessel can generate. When fully enlightened you must instill your light in order to maintain its wisdom.
