You were most probably in your "etheric body / etheric plane" (Sylvan Muldoon) or, another name for it, the "real-time-zone" (Robert Bruce).
I haven't heard it described as the "esoteric plane", but this sounds similar to Castaneda's name for it: "the second attention".
What you described is common, often referred to as "astral sight". You'll see the room around you, things may be slightly different e.g. an object out of place, a different sound. Things may take on a slightly different hue (its happened to me a few times,and things normally look slightly blue-tinted.)
"Astral sight" differs from "astral travel" / OBE solely because your point of awareness appears to be still stuck in your physical body. In an OBE, you have the sensation of "leaving" your physical body.
It is possible to have an OBE from the state you are in, but I've never had much success...I've always found that my legs / arms are stuck within my physical body.

Once you have left your body behind on the bed, you can do anything. Your only limits are those imposed by your mind. So, with a bit of effort, you can fly (but your mind is used to walking, so you'll have a tendency to float back down), walk through walls (again, you might find yourself banging into them at first), travel at huge speeds, perceive things in all directions simultaneously, communicate with other beings.
Also bear in mind that not only does your mind place constraints on your ability, but it also can create your environment. In the astral planes, thought = reality. If you suddenly think to yourself "I'm scared of falling", then you'll fall, until you re-gain control or return to waking conciousness.
Your last question; I think it happens to a lot of people, but many just dismiss it as a dream. One of the goals of most people here is to be able to astrally project at will, instead of finding ourselves in the astral by chance.

That's very interesting about how you mentioned about the "hue", I didn't mention this because it was tough to describe, but "hue" is a very good word to describe it. I was thinking of using the word, "tint".
Whenever I have this experience, it is true that the colors of the room all have a certain 'hue' to it, usually red (nighttime) or maybe a white/yellowish (like a morning sun).
There is also a very fine "fuzz" around everything, not "blurry" but more like if everything had static electricity around it and I could see it. Very strange but very interesting.

yes - same with me. Sharp lines appear slightly fuzzy, sharp edges appear rounded.
During one experience, I awoke with astral sight, and made an attempt to move, but I couldn't. The room was tinted blue, and fuzzy, as we've described....but floating in the corner of the room, by the cupboard, was some kind of energy. It was fluorescent blue, and flickered on and off. Do you remember low-resolution graphics on home computers, 20 yrs ago ? It was like a random collection of pixels, flickering on & off ...pretty amazing !

If things look more blue, thats probably because blue is at a higher frequency than the average visible spectrum. Astral and real time zone are higher frequency than earth.
That's strange, it is different with me. This has happened to me twice and both times it was very real. There was no fuzziness or blurriness. I am certain it is real because both times I took a glimpse of my digital clock and when I get out of the "trance" the time is still the same as I saw it in the "trance." I could not hear anything but a weird buzzing sound, very faint, and I could not move or scream. The only thing I could control was my breathing, breathing very hard would get me out of the "trance."
hi moemakki ! I reckon its probably different with most people. How many times have you had it (astral sight) and not been able to move ? For me, probably only 3 or 4 times.

I have had it happen to me twice. I just can't seem to control when it happens.
Occasionally, I will wake up in what I consider a "bad dream."
I think I am awake, I can see my room completely clearly. I am unable to move or speak, although I "feel" like I am opening my mouth. And I don't feel "pinned" down at one particular part of my body like many APers have described.
I'll hear radio stations (although no radio is on) and noises coming from the other room. This of course scares me because I think that something is in the other room and I can't move or call for help.
I always just considered these "nightmares" (although, I VERY rarely have nightmares) but after reading through Dr. DeGracia's 1994 online OBE notes, I'm thinking that I could have been on the "esoteric plane"
So my question to you all - Where do you think I was? If I was on the esoteric plane, what kinds of things can I do on the esoteric plane? Why do you think this happens to me even though I wasn't trying to go to any planes?
