The Midland Method (A new way to OBE)

I'm just beginning to 'pick up' on voices and once I've established they're not real voices, I am then able to leave my body.  It's a new way for me and my mind is only just learning to recognise the voices.

Sometimes the voices are next to me, sometimes from a distance.  One time I heard American voices talking about something that had 'hit' them and how serious it was.  It sounded like a 50s sci-fi movie.

Another time I heard a friend's voice right next to me, on my bedside table!

I also hear 'tinny' music, like it's coming from an old transistor radio, which is in another room from me.  Sometimes the music I can nearly recognise.

I've never been scared by the voices, mind you, so far they've been unobtrusive.  I've only been scared once.  It was the middle of the night, I was in my astral body (but still in my real body) and I heard a rustle.  I sensed a female presence in the room, wearing a long old-fashioned dress which made the rustling noise as she moved.  I started to get a bit apprehensive and promptly fully awoke.  I cursed myself upon wakening, because the OBE was what I was trying to achieve.  But you are right - it is scary when it's dark, you're going into unknown worlds and something rustles at you which you can't see!

Unfortunately, most of the time when I'm trying to catch myself from falling to sleep, I fail and just fall asleep!

Hi ho.
We all find nonsenses to believe in; it's part of being alive.

Hi Steel Hawk,

I've had those voices ever since I was a kid.  I thought of it as radio channel surfing and would focus on them to fall asleep.  I know the balance you're talking about but I never got out of my body, probably because I let myself fall asleep.  I'll have to try this again and see what happens.

Do you meet the people having the conversation when you leave your body?

I used to hear the voices as I fell asleep alot, but not so much now. Last night I heard something. I thought perhaps it was just the voices and, half asleep already, tuned into it. I found it was a womans voice and she was talking to me. I do not recall what she said but I do remember it wasn't very nice. She wasn't insulting me  mind you, but encouraging me do evil things instead. I remember only one word she spoke for sure, and that was "Kill". I remember mumbling aloud in my sleep and told her to F off. It worked, she hushed. I really hope no one else in the house was awake to hear that apparent one sided conversation with the "devil on my shoulder". Hopefully that won't be happening again anytime soon. It felt like I was actually hearing someone speak who was really in the room.
"Doohicky" "thingie", "thingamajigger" and "what'sit" are all commonly accepted engineering terms these days. Impress your boss and use more than one in a sentance... Major brownie points!

What I find interesting is the theme of the voices saying things like "he's aware of us!"

I've read of similars accounts.
I need a signature that isn't stupid. :/

I haven't posted in a while, but thought I'd share this experience. I believe it mostly deals with auditory hallucinations.   For those of you that have experienced them it may be of some use.  This method I'd like to call the "Midland Method".

This is the only effective method I've found that works for me.

The basic theory is by concentrating (but not analyzing) on the "voices in your head" one can drift into "midland" the place between dreams.  Midland is the word "they" (or my subconscious) used.

It's 4:00AM I'm drifting into sleep...

I start hearing converstations in my head, much like listening to the radio while having an in depth converstation with someone else. The radio is in the background with people talking, but you arn't paying much attention as to what is said.  I don't know exactly why this happens, but for me it does.

The voices are distinct an unique as if a real person was speaking.  I try to concentrate on what is said by not thinking and just listening.  It takes some experimentation to get the right balance.

After a few moments I start hearing phrases (which I don't remember what was due to the nature of memory loss while doing this) such as "I think he...".  The phrases turn into sentences such as "I think he knows that we are here."  And finally I'm able to hear a conversation.

While this is going on I just focus on what is being said, but I can't find that I can actually think about what is being said.  It seems to cause me to become too "awake".  Listen, but don't associate.

Maybe a minute or so later (I have no sense of time at this stage) I feel my astral body start to come out of it's shell, moving around, etc.  From this point it's just a matter of "going through the veil".

It's the best term I can use.  It feels like ..well like your leaving your body.. going through a shield / magnetic field.  The sound is like a very high pitched ring (not ringing, ring, one long ring).  At this point the vibrations occur and what not.. I believe this is the first stage of transfer.  After this first transfer is when the normal OBE sensations occur... I don't think anyone has described the first part of seperation... I think .. no, I know there are two parts of seperation.

Last night I got to the part just before the vibrations.  It was hot, so I had the fan on -- makes good white noise too.  However, the noise that the motor in the fan made seemed to turn into a laugh.  The typical "I'm an evil vampire torturing your significant other" super villian laugh.  It was like a deep "Ha -- Ha -- Ha -- Ha..etc" noise... Kinda freaked me out, so I reached out with my astral arm and punched in the laughs general direction (to make it shut up).  I really didn't expect it, but the laugh went from a "Ha -- Ha -- Ha" to a much louder "MUHAHA MUAHAHAHAHA HA HAAAA" type scary super villian laugh.  Which at this point I said screw it, abort, abort, abort.  Get out the dragon's blood incense.. go away scary spirits...

I'm not freaked out by much... but the laugh had intelligence, which I didn't expect from a hallucination :) so maybe a neg, or demon, or something.  Most people don't realize how scary this is, imagine:

You can't see, your in a wierd state of mind almost like being on drugs (if not wierder), it's pitch black, your hearing things, and some evil laugh is right next to you...

ANYWAYS.. I'll get off my soap box now. While this was going on did have a few precognitions.. Tornados.. hitting a major city, tearing apart buildings.  Seemed like New York, although logically I wouldn't expect it.  Another thing.. I heard and felt "Kansas, snow--?something?".. it was evil.. Maybe a nuclear winter, nuclear snow.. something terrible..

Well that's that. Hope I added some knowledge to someone.
