One of the biggest reason of failer with new projecters is that they make it to the transtion stage and then they get scared, or excited, or they think the moment this starts.  I also have to admit it was also the reason I failed so many times, but with my failer I learned. Most people expeirence this right before seperation when attempting to leave there body, I would say that this is stage right before projection.  Hope I helped.

Thanks Gothpyre,
I haven't really found any one book that completely breaks down the different stages during projection techniques. It would be good to have a complete stage by stage guide on what to expect in each of the different stages and how to respond to them. I gained some relevant information regarding this from Robert Munroe's books but only bits here and there. I have had a few experiences which I regarded as genuine obe's but they seemed to happen after entering sleep rather than experiencing a transition stage.

All my projections have been from interrupted sleep so I can't tell you the steps you go through for a conscious projection. However here's what I've found so far:

1.) Basic relaxed state
2.) Muscles twitching, usually a leg will twitch once and then no more twitching
3.) Floating sensation, usually happens in hands first
4.) Going in and out of awareness, slight dropping sensations
5.) Spinning sensation like twirling on your belly button
7.) Static noise, or rushing sounds
8.) Hearing and seeing hypnagogics

As far as I know the response to all these stages is the same, just be passively aware without reacting to them. If you're doing some kind of visualization to OBE then it's important to not alter your visualization when you drop to a deeper level.

Thanks cube,
One thing I have also noticed is a that I tend to feel when it is the correct time to attempt AP. If I try any other time I don't seem to get anywhere. It is just a certain feeling.

Hi,
While going through my usual AP routine (Basically, progressive relaxation and mind awake/body asleep) I had been aware of my body and the usual sensations up to a point then I seemed to lose all bodily sensations which resulted in a brief panic because I thought my heart had stopped, which brought all the sensations back.I'm trying to establish whether this period of lost sensation was a typical stage of or a beginning of a projection.
