I'll kickstart the list.....teehee.
Inactive lifestyles - pretty much being out of shape. The body is our sacred temple and if we make it more efficient we can only streamiline our chances with success in further experiences. Our ability to store more energy by being fit contributes positive feelings, less stress, and to be more subtle in which we can percieve energy.

Being tense is a killer. If you have ever been in a casino gambling and your feeling on edge or anticipating what will be dealt to you...only tenseness. That state of emotion is so rigid and the complete opposite of free flowing that it acts like a dam in a river! Man I want to flow-flow right out of my body!

You shoudl be careful with what you cut out of your life.  I know exactly what you are saying because I am doing the same thing, through a random coincidence, lol they don't exist.  But anyways hopefully people will wake up and all switch over to the path of least resistance.  This is the path where we help ourselves attain our desires and not get all sorts of things in the way to bar our paths.  T.V., Fear, Lethargy, etc etc the list goes on forever, here is the problem.

When you start talkign about the astral realm or any other for that matter they don't exactly function on the same underlying pricnciple of this reality.  Where we live everything is bi-polar.  As in there is an up and a down, happy and sad.  One thing cannot exist without the exact opposite.  In our reality.  In other realities bi-polar relationships don't exist.  Cool stuff like time, past, present, future.  Anyways all I am saying is that when yo step into a different realm the rules are different, so if you eliminate your experience of being stressed what value does being relaxed have?  Relaxed doesn't even exist if stressed vanishes.  Then relaxed would be all there is, and it would no longer be called relaxed but that state would be normal.  In the astral from what I've heard (not via experience)  any radical emotions on either side of the scale bounce you out or adversly effect that realm, it's driven on emotion and thought.  So be careful, don't close of avenues that may prove helpful.  But yes hitting the gym is a positive.  Eating helathy etc.  Fuel your corporeal machine and treat it well it will help with everyhting.  Ok I've talked for far too long.  There is always more to say, but who cares.  Have fun.

I don't think it's quite TV, but rather the effects TV can have on a mind, ie. dullness and lethargy. But that only happens if you rely on TV as your source of imagination. Simply reading novels can fuel your imagination even more, fantasy and sci fi genres especially.

Anyhoo, that's just my opinion.

As for your point, nthjbam, very well structured. I know somebody who I personally got interested into the whole OBE thing, but he has had more success than me in a relatively short time. I know it could be natural ability, but his attitude is also different. Of course he gets scared by some things, but he's not scared of going out of body, whereas I sometimes am. He also doesn't believe it is a difficult thing to do, whereas I have caught myself on countless times thinking to myself that "I haven't prepared enough" or "I'm not good enough" or "my mind isn't tamed enough."

I'm always looking for more. Looking for more is a type of self doubt that acts as an obstacle. Other forms of self doubt, however, do not act as obstacles. The best way to overcome this, I think, is not to believe that one needs total faith in oneself, but to realise that they have all the faith they need, and with that they can do anything. After all, we ARE multidimensional beings, and everything exists for a purpose. If we weren't supposed to consciously go out of body, then we wouldn't at all.

No amount of rigorous training, sitting and doing nothing, and clearing one's mind can help a man who hasn't overcome his doubts.

The things that prevent me from having OBEs sometimes aretoo full stomach, too emty stomach, loud noise, interruption, someone to sit on my bed while I am trying to AP, not enough sleep (leads to falling asleep), too much sleep (cannot fall into trance), tiredness, inability to stay in one position without moving and that's pretty much it. I don't think TV affects me. But I do believe taking care of your body physically is important - regular training for example [:)]

nthjbam,
Nice feedback. Where are you from in Canada? I live in Winnipeg. Anyhow,I was wondering if you only need to experience soemthing once in order to understand the bi-polar concept. For example, to be stressed one time will allow you to contrast it with the experience of being relaxed. Why would anyone want to relive stressed moments if they already have had the experience to know what relaxed is. All I can say is that if I'm relaxed all the time it is much more beneficial than stress. What do you think about being in total control of your emotions? Do you think that could be one of the most helpful things towards gaining control of one's mind - thus leading you towards a liquified state of being. This in my imagination keeps the mind "lubricated" for easy slippage! teehee.

IF your constantly relaxed than the meditation process would seem like a joke.

T.V. is a major problem I feel due to its effects on our energy. It sucks it all away! Major Tom, you couldn't have said it better!

Hmmmm,

I'm not really sure.  The only thing I can say is that without any one extreme the other does not exist, or if it does exist it does not have any true value.  What good is joy if you've never known pain?  No contrast.  As far as being relaxed, I would tend to agree being relaxed 24/7 would be great.  It's all in your mind, it's how you react to everything in your world.  You can choose to accept stress or not (easier said than done)  I don't think you would be a very well rounded person if you were perma-relaxed, no fun.  Cool and mellow, but that's about it.

If one could theoretically control all of their emotions, I mean if you could obejectively go back through time and analyze all of the events of your life and see exactly where you started hating vegetables, or that time your dog got run over by a car, your 7th birthday etc.  All of the extreme positive and negative stimuli of your life.  How one event has lead you to have a propensity for alcohol, blondes, science-fiction etc.  Would it make a difference?  Would you be able to change?  If you knew why you were sad everytime it rained, could you mentally unwrite that reaction?  I'm not sure.  If I had the chance to do so I most definetely would try.  I would love to change the way I react to things, the way I am hard wired.  It's probably possible, but it's a long process of constant alteration that would last the rest of your life...  I think I've convinced myself, LOL.  But seriously would it make a difference?  Being in control is an illusion, the only thing we are in control of is ourselves, and the majority of sheep *cough, I mean people aren't in control of themselves at all.  Complete emotional control would be cool, but pretty dry, vulcan-esqe.  People are weird accept it.  But as far as personally being liquified in the sense of everyhting in your reality being smooth, that would be interesting for a time, but it would get boring, unless being in that state opened doors to far more interesting realms, astral realm??  Who knows, I'm rambling.  Oh yeah I'm from Toronto.  Peace.

Hello everyone!

For some time now I have been trying to have O.B.E's, lucid dreams, phasing etc. and have had limited success. The way in which I approached these various experiences was from the viewpoint that one must get rid of particular "negative" lifestyles that inhibited the growth of one's consciousness. I felt that I could do as much training and meditation as possible that met the required steps to having an O.B.E, but still felt that there was more work to be done on an inner level. What are these "things" that prevent natural O.B.E's? We are striving for steps and lessons to guide us, however, if there is something else we are doing at the same time that acts as an opposing force to what we are trying to accomplish, we must look in another direction that is deeper within ourselves. I have an intuitive feeling that if one were to decrease these opposing factors they would find themselves having O.B.E's with less effort. This may sound corny (teehee) but to me I want a more flowing lifestyle. Not to be tense, aggrevated or mad. To be gentle at heart. I've noticed that when my emotions have been under my control for months on end that the accessability to this O.B.E door is greater. I've noticed that if I don't have a calm, relaxed lifestyle that it is harder for me. Maybe I have to filter what I'm confronted in life in a way that allows only beneficial things that will aid my evolvement with O.B.E's.

There has been counless wise things said on this forum and I would love to hear what you guys have to say on your experiences with what you feel to be opposing forces towards an inner development in O.B.E's, lucid dreaming etc.

Please can everyone contribute at least one thing that you think does not help in the least towards having these beautiful experiences. Be funny, serious...whatever.

Thanks for reading the long post!
