I like the silicon earplugs. They`re bigger and I find they give a better seal.More comfortable too!

yeah ear plugs do help out alot. However after working for the railroad and waring them for almost a whole 8hr shift, I can't take those things anymore...lol

One thing I just figured out today for getting a better seel with the foam ones. The trick is to not put them in straight, but to wedge them up against the back of your ear canal.

It works like this, the earplug flares out on the end that sticks out your ear. You fold that back against the plug like this:

Then stick it in so the flat part of the back of the plug is pressing against the inside of your ear canal, like this:

If you just stick it in normally it never seels very well. This is not the right way:

Hi kiauma,
Thanks! I'm glad you found this to be useful. I'm a programmer, I suppose it's a job that's a lot like technical writing in many ways.

If you've ever documented how to use some code you've written - you're a technical writer!  [:)]

It's not the most glamorous thing, but very valuable, IMO.

I tried ear plugs a while back. They sealed off any sound from the outside world just fine, but what i found to be even more distracting was that i could quite easily hear my heart beat. It wasn't worrying me or anything, it was just much more distracting for me than any outside noise. So i stopped using them.

kiauma,
Document how to use the code I write? Ha. Ha ha ha. Ha ha hahahahahhaaHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAHAA!!

Euphoric,
When I have plugs in it's the background ringing noise that's loudest for me. I wonder what that is? It seems to kind of help me relax if I focus on it.

According to Birm, that noise is your astral sense of hearing. There's a post in the Permanent Topics forum about his "Triangle" method, where you visualize and focus on the imaginary triangle formed between your two astral ears and brow center. I don't know if his analysis is correct, but I've come very close to projecting using this method. Also, during meditation, focusing on this noise can cause it to increase in "volume" substantially and generate exit pressure sensations.

Whoo hoo! I've been getting a lot closer to having a daytime OBE and I think it's because I'm using earplugs (as someone on this site suggested). I've been getting popping noises and rushing sensations more frequently.

The ones I got are 'Super Leight' Earplugs they are orange disposable bullet shaped foam with 33 noise reduction rating. The directions say to roll them into cylinder then let them expand in your ears but that never works for me, I get a better seel by just jamming them in.
