When you fall asleep the sounds from the physical plane disappear.

I also had problems with noises here sleeping during the day. It used to bother me so much I was afraid I was going to be pulled back to my body because of them. I would even get in trance in the middle of the night and hear doors slamming, pop sounds, and I'd wake up indeed, just to find out there were no noises at all. My mind was tricking me.

I found I better use them instead of trying to block them all and thinking I could only sleep if it was all quiet.

Suggest yourself that you can easily fall asleep even when it's noisy. Use the noises as an indication, as you fall asleep they will begin to fade. Don't pay much attention, act like it is so boring that you just don't care anymore, receive them as an audible mass, don't try to perceive anything special. Use some cotton if it helps.
Where does this silence come from?

Senara,

I would also recommend this iexcersise that Bruse Moen has written about.   Use it to change your belief that you have to be aware of the CD sounds in order to get out.

I assume you use the cd to mask the sounds of your bird? could you move the bird? give him sleeping pills? If the bird is loud enough it could bring you back, rather than listening have you tried earplugs?

May virtuous qualities, merit, and prosperity greatly increase

Focus!!! :) That's all. Use it as an exercise to focus. Think about it, it is really hard work, but if you can get yourself to focus despite a distraction like that then you could meditate deep virtually anywhere you wished despite outside conditions. It is tough, but use it to your advantage, and see it as an aid, like lifting weights, to improve your focus. :) good luck!

yes earplugs work too, even if they are designed to silence high db sounds
with them on you can hear your own breathing, and hearbeat sometimes
work with concentrating on your breathing and ignore your heartbeat
not sure if breathing acts like white noise with earplugs on, you can try putting a large fan beside your bed, or static on your radio/tv if you can handle that
I haven't consciously projected yet, but I do use these to help with noise

I feel that noisy rooms are a blessing actually, I use the sounds around me as a meditation. I try to sustain one for a while, focusing on it entirely, then I try to listen to all the sounds all at once with absolutely no thoughts. And I live in Harlem, so you should have no complaints! Car alarms, my neighbors and their dueling merengue music or drug dealers with car stereos that make my apartment sound like a disco when they drive by! I just use them as a meditation and eventually they fade out entirely.

just don't kill tweety...ok?

I have one problem.  I have to wear headphones and listen to some kind of CD to get there.  It's either that or kill my bird.  I don't want to kill the bird.

I'm in trance rocking and rolling and vibrating and being tugged on constantly.  But my brain locks onto the idea that I can't get out   because I won't be able to hear the distracting sound of the CD.  Does the sound go with you when you start wandering around?  Or can my bird snap my astral body awake??

Help me understand what happens as you explore.  Please!

I live at my universities dormatory and can still manage to project about two three times a week regardless of the noise level. At first the constant loud music, doors slamming, people yelling in the hallway distracted me, but i guess it was a matter of habituation that made the noise level lose its effect from keeping me projecting.
If you act like the noise is no big deal, which keeps yourself from being discouraged, it seems to lose its effect.
Hope all goes well

What method are you using to try and "get out"?  It sounds like you are already part way out - with all that rockin and rollin.  If I am part way out already then I can get out fully by just intending it.  I might give a command like "rise rise rise" (in my mind not out loud) or intend to "fly" or "move toward the door".     Linda.
