Title: Trance facial problem
Post by: Jeff_Mash on September 29, 2003, 15:13:01
Whenever my eyes feel too tense, do you know what I do?  Of course you don't, so I will tell you!

I simply leave them open.  For example, if I am laying in bed, trying to work on some relaxation/projection exercises, if my eyes are bothering me (because they are flickering, or they have a lot of pressure in them), I leave them open and just stare into space.

This helps if you're in a dark room, although I don't see why this wouldn't work in the daylight.  You just stare straight ahead.  Don't stop yourself from blinking.  And don't stare intently.  The point is not to FOCUS but to RELAX.  After a few minutes, your eyes may start to feel heavy, and then when you close them, a sense of relief almost comes over you, and they feel 100% more relaxed.

At least, this is what works for me.

Greetings,

This is the same as Zen style meditation. Zen Buddhists meditate with their eyes wide open but looking at a blank wall. I think the main objective is to not allow your eyes to be distracted by physical movements or visual sensory input. You could also try using a black band over your eyes, e.g like those sweat bands that normally go around the forehead, that would relieve the pressure from your eyes.

With best regards,

Adrian.

I get your feeling every now and then. It is all in your mind man. Say to your self that you are relaxed and think positivly. I do that and it workes.

I must thank you all.
I will try tonight and tomorrow.

Adrian- The zen style med. your meaning must be "zazen". I know cause I've practised it for some time, not now though. It is good if you ask me.

I also suffered terribly with rapid eye movement when I started trance work, I found by ignoring it and going deeper into trance,by continuing to  fall into yourself, by reproducing the same feeling as a downward ride in an elevator worked and you were soon in the deepest dark  void. It is real pain but does become easier to overcome with practice.

My eyes went "crazy" a few times too...  Isn't REM a normal part of the sleep cycle?  You are supposed to enter REM when you dream...
