If we can exist without the physical body,.. and the brain is just a filter,   what would happen if we were to develop  Alzheimer or dementia, would those effects transfer over into the astral? , or into the after life when we die? what if we were to suffer brain damage and we can't function normally? would we have these effects after death, or during OBE?  :?

I don't know for sure but I'm very familiar with Alzhiemers. The mind would not be affected in astral and in fact sometimes in an alzhiemers patient you see these moments of lucidity... I mean they remember everything but just for a few minutes and then they don't know who they are again. Dementia patients would probably not be able to induce an intentional astral projection or phasing. The disease kills the focus almost right off the bat and that's is necessary to induce and remember the projection.
I had an encounter with my grandmother who died of Alzhiemers and her memory was good she recognized me right away. There were some issues but they were not related to the dementia. Having to work with these patients it does press on ones mind even when I have access to information in a way that I never used to.

The sufferers seem to be in a constant daydream frame of mind. It's hard to explain but the feelings some give out are like being in the hypnagogic state on overload.
I'll try to give an explanation of this feeling,
When you read a book in bed and lose the story but you go into a dreamstate and flit around from one thing to another then wake and read some more to repeat the same.  The book may get read but you cannot recall what you read unless you backtrack to before the first daydream state.
Their minds are in this dreamstate with occasional real world sensibility. It's unfortunate it can't be controlled as the sufferers are so unaware of what's real. Their grip on reality is missing and it isnt a pleasant feeling to recieve.
You need strong emotional control when sensitive. It's an illness you really don't want.
When your physical time has ended I'm convinced the effects will dissapear completely. The amount of clarity with the extra senses you have will become apparent. Help is always there too.

(To the one, don't overthink on this, it'll upset you. PM if you need to)
I just know...
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

It doesn't change anything about "YOU" (the consciousness", it just puts extra filters (as you would say) on your physical reality existence.  Adding extra constraints to you.
These are physical reality constraints and not related to "YOU", the consciousness.  Unless you believed that the disease was you, then you would shed that upon death.
