Trouble moving through objects

Hi all,

I consider myself to be a novice or beginner in terms of AP / OBE, and am only starting out to explore the experiences. Over the last few nights (or rather early morning, I medidate normally from about 4am onwards) I had two experiences that have left me a little puzzled and I hope someone can help me out a little.

The second probably illustrates the point best. After some meditation I rolled over to get some sleep. I had some very vivid images in my mind, and realised that I was going into a LD. I participated in the dream for a short while, and then decided to try and project. I followed Bruce's technique of falling over backwards, had a falling / floating sensation, and then "came to" in a vibrational state. I rolled myself over in bed and felt like I had moved out, but couldn't see anything. I reached out with my hand until I could feel very clearly the carpet and it's texture. I imagined my eyes open and had a brief flash of vision, after which sight came slowly to me. I could see the bed next to me and the carpet below, as if I was hovering just above the side of the bed, which would have made perfect sense if I had actually rolled out of myself. I looked over to the wall and curtain which were there and clear. I had trouble moving, so decided to see if I could put my hand through the wall. This is where I met with solid resistance in the wall. I couldn't move my hand through it. Same with the floor when I tried that.

At that point I figured I must have been awake all along (not thinking that I couldn't be hovering if I was awake) and gave up. I must have fallen asleep at that stage because I woke up a short while later, but still remembering the experience.

My question then is, was this just a dream? Perhaps even a lucid dream? Or are there instances where the astral body is not able to penetrate physical objects (I seem to remember Monroe recounted some such experiences). The other experience has some of the same elements, although I was able to move through some physical objects during that experience. A bit more of a mixed bag but this post is already getting too long to bore you with those details.

Your opinions would be much appreciated.

Robert Peterson calls this "earth-sickness"

Your physical reflexes and expectations are clouding your experiences... The lack of sight is usually caused by the fact that you're looking through your physical eyes, where there is nothing but darkness since they are closed... Not being able to go through things is also caused by your expectations, this thing in your mind that says "there's just no way you can go through there."

I don't think it would indicate that it was "just a dream" -- the reason is simple: if it were a dream, why wouldn't you have been able to go through the wall? :p

Anyway, my advice would be to issue voice commands. When you have difficulty doing something, state out loud what it is you want to do. In the physical, we usually have two parts to us, one that thinks, and one that does. No matter how hard you think "move" at a ball, it probably won't move until you transfer the thought into movement and kick it away. When you issue the voice command in an OBE, it kind of throws your intention out there, and it empowers you to do the things you want, rather than merely thinking about them. After a while of doing this, you'll realize that you don't need to say it for it to happen anymore...

It's all a matter of realizing your infinite potential, the fact that the only thing that is preventing you from doing the things you want is yourself.

And for the vision part, you can try to do an exercise in the physical, when you're about to fall asleep and see images as you described; simply try to stay and look at the pictures without letting your physical sight call you back into the darkness of your eyelids. This skill is actually important for more than just sight; to have a full out of body experience with all human senses, it's important to be able to fully "forget" about physical senses and detach from all of them (touch is actually the most important).

Thanks for the reply kiwibonga. It makes a lot of sense and thanks for the pointers. I had not anticipated any problems such as this, seeing as I regularly move through walls, fly etc in LD's. But obviously it's not the same. I'm encouraged by the fact that you don't think it was a dream seeing as if that was the case I would have moved through the wall! (I had a DOH! moment when I read that!)

Anyhows, thanks again. By the way, you in NZ?

No, I'm in Canada.

By the way, I didn't say I didn't think it was a dream, I'm just saying, there's no way to know for sure, ever, unless you have tangible proof to the contrary, which you'll rarely ever get :p

Something that happened yesterday morning,

Seemed like what I guess was a low RTZ mixed LD like experience.

Got to the point of mind awake, body asleep, so I started a planned exercise to create swaying back and forth. Like rocking back and forth at a 1 sec cycle ( 1 Hz rocking motion  :-D )
As recommended by Robert Peterson and others.

So instead of coming out forward as expected, I tilt slowly off to the left all the way to the floor, and I'm thinking, whaaat?, but, no problem, it's working.

I'm completely lucid, and I'm checking out my living room, taking note of the subtle differences between my everyday livingroom and the one being observed at the moment.

Then, I start to feel tired!  And I was amazed at how solid my legs felt, and as I intentionally started to float, my feet were dragging on the floor, and I was thinking about how weird this was.

I had previously decided to inspect all the rooms in the house, and as I did, the rooms were different than I expected and reflected an alternate life experience. For example, two young sons, instead of an older daughter.

At one point large picture screens of alternate scenery appeared in the living room, and next time I'll ignore the unstable changing alternate RTZ environment and work on using the large screens as portals.

This was very different from my last experiences because I usually look around quickly, then go through the nearest large window. As I pass through the window I hear a "gluump, squish" sound, almost like submerging in water. Sometimes I look to the side, so I can see a cross section, the edge of the glass, the interior of the room, and outside at the same time.

This is instinctive, and I just know how to do this somehow.
But, I don't like to go through walls into a dark space. Although I've found myself above the ceiling, looking at the framing of the roof.

Recently I was flying above the roof tops of a neighborhood, and I didn't turn quickly enough and went through an attic and saw the frame of the house. My impulse is normally to avoid going through walls.
