Is it possible that I could be trying to hard for an AP/OOBE? Ive tried several times and several methods but with little success? Do you think I should not try for a week or so? I so want to experience an AP it really excites me but Im now thinking that I could want it too much.

I can get eager/anxious at times during meditation myself. I know because thought forms like "why aren't I going deep in trance, yet?" "I'm bored" and "what's the point?" start flooding my brain. When this happens I take a deep breath and think to myself... "my only intent is to exercise my focus, not to project." It's sort of like if you want to become a bodybuilder. Your ultimate goal is to bench 300 lb. and win Mr. (or Ms.) Universe. How do you do that? You build your strength repping 50 lb, 100 lb, 150, etc. So you don't need to take a break from reaching your ultimate goal, you just have to assess how you'll reach it. There's no shortcut with most forms of training, training the mind is no different.

Everyone is different, and it does take a long time for some and less for others, but I do think that it's possible to overdo it.
If you are losing sleep, or so obsessed about it that are no longer having any fun with it, you are overdoing it.
I can't tell you how often to try, but I think establishing a practice (or routine) is important, and sticking to it (with variations) is also important. At the same time, your attempts shouldn't happen every time you practice, so that you don't put too much pressure on yourself.
So decide what time is the best for you, and do your attempts on a schedule, but not every day. That's too much anxiety.
